1. After years of back and forth trash talking among BC and Uconn fans, BC and Uconn finally played a FB game against one another today. The result - BC dominated Uconn: 30-0. That's five wins. One more for bowl eligibility.

2. Longer Term, BC released plans for the new football indoor practice facility. Construction scheduled to start this spring after graduation. As the presentation indicates, it will be built alongside the FB stadium/FB building.

Congrats Eagles. Glad to see you guys pounded Uconn pretty good.

Yeah, it was a pretty one-sided affair. I think Uconn only had something like 121 yards total offense and total time of possession of about 17 minutes and change. BC emptied its bench in the 4th quarter or the score would have likely been higher.

Its a Uconn fans worst nightmare for football, being whipped up by their two most hated rivals in one season.
And likely to get pounded again in a few weeks at MSG

That will be an interesting game. I think Uconn will give us more of a game than expected. SU is their biggest rivalry and their players want to make a name for themselves. Where are we going to meet for the game? Ill have 2 of my sons with me.

Some Good Developments for Boston College Football

In an April, 2013 blog post I suggested that BC needed to absolutely dominate college football in New England. Here are the games against New England teams over the last 3 years, plus the marquee non-conference home games:

2014
UMass - Gillette Stadium
USC - Alumni Stadium
Maine - Alumni Stadium

2015
Maine - Alumni Stadium
Notre Dame - Fenway Park

2016
UMass - Gillette Stadium
UConn - Alumni Stadium

I realize the competition for fans in New England is tough, what with the NFL Patriots, NBA Celtics, MLB Red Sox and NHL Bruins, but it looks like BC is doing a reasonably good job of trying to attract local fan interest (now, they need to win more games!).

Hi Hokie Mark. The challenge BC has in playing local New England teams is that these teams are not competitive with BC, so the games are not very compelling.

Take the three years you cited, the aggregate scoring for the 5 "New England" games (UMASS AND Maine in 2014, Maine in 2015, and UMASS and UCONN in 2016) was a whopping 150-27! (Which could have been even a larger disparity as BC typically just emptied its bench in the 4th quarter as they did not want to run up scores on a local team.)

Even if FCS Maine is removed from that comparison and you take just the three games agains local FBS neighbors (UMASS in 2014 and UMASS and UCONN in 2016), the gap is still huge - the aggregate scoring disparity remained high in the three games BC played against them: 86-14! (Again with BC emptying its bench in the 4th quarter and just sitting on the ball rather than trying to score).

Many UMASS and UCONN fans have long liked to deride the BC program. However, their respective teams have come nowhere close to backing up their fans' smack talk. :)

BC probably won't have to continue playing these local teams forever, but in the short term it needs to be fresh in the minds of all New England high school football players that the #1 college team in the region is Boston College.

Besides that, if you're going to play a couple of cupcakes every year (and every team does), why not make them local so that more fans can travel to the stadiums?
