I'm not sure any of that proves inconsistency.

LaTech and WKU are a step above everyone else in CUSA.

We won the Army game because we were +6 in turnovers, we lost the UTSA game because we were -4 in turnovers. Reverse the turnover +/- in each of those games and you reverse the outcome.

I think that if we beat UTEP Littrell deserves the honor because he took a 1-11 team (that lost by 59 to an FCS) and got them to bowl eligibility the next year. However I can see why other schools might think there coach deserves it too.

I know at the beginning of the year a UNT fan predicted that the Mean Green would win 8 games (with a win over Tech), I posted on that thread that if the Mean Green win 8 games that Littrell should win the COY hands down. Some of that might have been from the far fetch hope that the 3rd string Alabama QB would be as good as Jeff Driskel. But even a 6 win season is pretty outstanding feat considering that UNT had one of the tougher schedules in CUSA (Played Tech, WKU and MTSU)

Old Dominion 1 - La Tech 0

To be fair, how much respect do you expect a team coming out of the FCS to get right off the bat? How much did Charlotte get?

You've earned some respect this year, but the fact you didn't play MTSU the past 2 years isn't going to help your case (even if they are down the second half of this season). It also doesn't help you that both Marshall and Southern Miss are disappointments this year. That's not ODU's fault, it's just the situation we're in.

I will say ODU is improving, and if you continue to do so you will get all the respect you deserve and could be a top tier program in C-USA. The problem this year is blowout losses to WKU and App State. Get more competitive against those opponents and you'll be golden.

For what it's worth, I predicted ODU to make a bowl this year, although I was predicting 6-6. You've exceeded those expectations and impressed everyone. If you beat FIU and win your bowl game that's a 10-win season.

Bottom line: win your bowl game and improve even more next season and you'll get plenty of respect.

Also, ODU's basketball team is a respectable bunch. Anyone that can beat Tech in the TAC deserves respect (our only home conference loss since joining C-USA 03-banghead).

ODU was predicted to be 6th in the east but yet they're are currently tied for 1st in CUSA! Talk about a turn-around, Wilder deserves COY. Oh yeah, before I forget Trey Freeman should have won back to back POY also

It should be a 4 way race in order of likelihood:

1. Littrell - If UNT finishes the job against UTEP.
2. Wilder
3. Holtz or Brohm - Whichever wins the championship.

I have no issue with Littrell over Wilson, but citing inconsistent play by UTSA as a reason for eliminating Wilson makes no sense because we've been no more inconsistent than UNT has been in the second half of the season.

UNT beat a solid Army team, convincingly so, and then lost to us by 14, you guys by 21, and WKU by 38, before winning again against Southern Miss. How is that not inconsistent? So if you're gonna go with Littrell, do it on the change in record between last season and this season.

My knock on UTSA's consistency are the UTEP and Rice games. How they do against Charlotte will be big, as well. It's also just from watching 4+ UTSA games. They seem be very Jekyl and Hyde.

EDIT: I don't begrudge the three UNT losses you mentioned: They were and should have been overmatched for what they are.

I agree with the rest of what you say.

Rice had a bye the week before their game against us, as did UTEP, giving them 2 weeks to heal up and prepare. IOW, we had two straight games against opponents who had byes the week before. I think that's at least part of the reason why we struggled against them. And as I said previously on another thread, our games against UTEP are always unpredictable anyway. We've played them 4 times now, and oddly enough, the visiting side has won every game so far. And btw, UNT struggled against Rice also, beating them 42-35.

From watching every UTSA game this season, the only thing Jekyll & Hyde about us has been the play of our QB. He has looked brilliant at times, and then turned around and really struggled the next week.

If a guy that goes for it on 4th and 2 on our own 33 in the first quarter wins COY then this conference has a long way to go.

Not to rag on our conference mates this year, but I don't think this ODU team gets anywhere near 8 or 9 wins playing in 2015's C-USA, in my mind we'd be 6-6.

We are much better than last year. I know that because we are beating teams we lost to last year, by a more than convincing margin. As far as going for it on 4th down, he only does it when he knows the defense can't hold them. You'll notice he hasn't gone for it in such a ridiculous fashion since that game. Win Saturday and then win our bowl game and that is doubling the win total from last year, and that very much deserves COY.

But the winner of the Championship game will probably get it.

If ODU wins this weekend, Wilder gets my vote. COY voting should consider a team's projected finish and its actual finish. WKU and La Tech were expected to compete for the title. ODU was not.

If ODU loses, the decision becomes much more difficult.

You've lost your mind. LA Tech lost 7 players from last years team to the NFL, including its starting QB (Jeff Driskel), a primary receiver (Paul Turner) and it's 4-yr starter at RB (Kenneth Dixon). Not to mention a 1st round draft choice in the DL (Vernon Butler).

This was a REBUILDING year for LA Tech. Get informed before posting.

It's all subjective as nobody has any clear criteria to grade on. Depending on what you feel is more important a criteria you find befitting, round and round we go. When it's announced if it doesn't fit your criteria we'll go round and round some more.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.
