Isn't it logical if #24 losses a close game to #21 that the loser should fall hard?

Shows how stupid the polls are this time of year.

I have not been a Mick lover and was kicked off of here for a time for bashing Mick. I dropped my center seats after almost 20 years. That said I am satisfied with Micks achievements. Perhaps it is due to how crappy Tubs has done in FB.

Mick's performance is approximately the equivalent of a football team that goes to a bowl game every year and loses.

He doesn't recruit well enough for us to raise in relevancy NOR does he develop talent sufficiently enough to make the most out of what who we do attract. As such, we're always incomplete and a player or two away. It's been a DECADE. Were we a more exacting program he would have been sent on his way looooong ago.

I know, I know, he's not going away. We just recommitted. I also realize that many of us are fearful of the unknown, I.e. who would we get in his stead. It just is what it is at this point. As long as Mick is the helm we're going to get these similar results. At this point, it's the definition of insanity to expect otherwise. The burden of proof is on Mick and supporters. He's had plenty of time to show otherwise.

does anybody else remember the 1970s, 80's? UC went years without a possibility of getting an NCAA INVITE. Now we qualify for 6 years or so in a row and we about to jump ship? geez, guys. Think about that.

Does anyone remember the 90's? Think about that.

Amen to that.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people rationalize mediocrity by citing the worst thing that could happen. Fear will not move our program forward.

If you feel comfy citing the 70s & 80s for hoops, than i'll safely presume you're a-ok with Tubbs, because....hey, we're still better than what we were in the (insert decade)

mc

You mean those same 90's and early 2000's where we made it out of the 2nd round 4 times in 15 years? I am not seeing a huge difference here...

I'm not saying those were the best in the nation. they weren't. personally, i was happy to see Huggs go. Why? well, because he had clearly peaked here.

that said, Mick offers a lot of the same grief - sorry basic offense, but with half of the upside. I was a student during the last 90s. UC games were big deals. Not so much now. We're not consistently ranked, we don't send players to the NBA and we don't have players on SI.

If you're not seeing much of a difference it's because you're not taking in the whole spectrum. UC was a nationally recognized program. Did Huggs habitually underperform in the tourney? absolutely. Esp considering his FF and EE came so early in his time at UC. Anywho....this is all territory well covered, so not going all the way there.

The program is clean, and kudos to Mick for that. he comes with positives....that's for sure. He just isn't going to take UC much further than what he's done now. Were we talking about a football coach this performance would be unacceptable, but for whatever reason ppl are pretty complacent for the hoops program. Ah well....

That is nothing to sneeze at. Yes he started young, but he took over a monumental rebuild, in the Big East no less. He has beat many hall of fame coaches, often with less talent. One of only 6 (Or was it 8, I'm drawing a blank, but still impressive) schools to make the NCAA tourney 6 straight years. We've had some tough draws and some tough breaks (We gave UK quite a scare two years ago). It took Coach K over 10 years to get his 1st title. Pitino was coaching for almost 20 years.Over 20 years for Dean Smith and almost 30 years for Boeheim. I can't argue that all of them didn't get to plenty of Final Fours in those years, but just putting that info out there.

I think we can all agree that the recruiting has picked up the last three years, which coincides with the consistent trips to NCAA. Probably half the top 100 guys go to the blue bloods. Some of the remainder aren't exactly team players and might be bad fits anyway (And he has started to reel some of them in). Mick has started to improve the level of recruits, no doubt. It sounds like those in the know, like the upcoming class as well. I like what I have read and heard as well.

Caupain developed into the pre-season AAC player of the year. Clark is struggling to exist with Washington. He will start to find it I am sure. We are counting on contributions from new players, all of whom have shown flashes of brilliance as well as growing pains. We are also relying more on Evans, who needs nothing said about how good he is. We lost to a good, experienced Rhode Island team, on the road, in our 3rd game of the season (It was a defacto road game). We started out strong, but then eased up a bit and Rhode Island started hitting everything. Bad combination, but the young guys will get more experience and Mick will trust them more (Think when the game got tight, he relied too much on the experienced guys and Washington, who was beat). While there are some freshman that step in immediately and produce, most of the time it takes time to get there. I have been impressed with the level of defense and offensive flashes from all the newcomers. Yes the offense gets stagnant too often, but there were a ton of times today that the spacing was excellent and guys had room to drive and operate in the post. Soon defenses are going to collapse on Washington hard and open up those kick-out three pointers that most of the team is capable of hitting (Usually we have been pretty deadly shooters on the pass from inside).

I think Mick is about to bust through that plateau with this team. The talent and depth is there. As the young guys get experience, this team could be very dangerous and as the announcers the last two days have both said, "Cincy is not a team you want to face come NCAA tourney time. They have all the pieces to make a deep run". Get a couple of these non-conference scalps and win the AAC and we can still be a pretty high seed. The AAC has started to get more respect as a basketball conference and some of the bottom dwellers have shown life thus far. Can Mick take us to the Final Four and get us a NC? I'd like to think so, but who knows. I do think he is about to take us to another level of making it to the 2nd weekend of the NCAAs and winning conference championships. Hopefully he can take us beyond that as that is where I want the program to be once again.

Rankings the last few years: (conference rank in parentheses)
2013: 25th (3rd)
2014: 36th (1st)
2015: 58th (7th)
2016: 62nd (3rd)
2017: 61st (5th)
