Quote:Temple>>>Toledo gets the spot in your scenario.

3L Temple vs 2L Toledo? I don't think so. Temple never had to play Navy, Tulsa, or Houston this season -- and only 1 of the weight carriers of the AAC, South Florida who they beat.

But they beat (not as strong as once was) Memphis, lost to Penn State (fair) -- but lost to ARMY. So no, I don't think a 3L Temple would make it... unless Toledo struggled to beat Ohio, and Temple sh!t-canned ECU and sh!t-canned Navy -- then maybe for a biased crew.

Toledo beating Ark State, a G5 conference champ team, and in a toss-up game against BYU for a loss + MAC East Champs for a loss -- while beating 11-1 WMU, and re-beating the MAC East Champs for a win? Don't see Temple objectively being better than Toledo if that pans out.

I wouldn't count on it. :) SD-State has a bad loss, yes. SD-State also beat a P5 team, and the committee puts stock in that. Unless Wyoming to NM -- they're going to have Wyoming better than Ohio. Ohio lost to the WORST team in the NATION, and an extra loss after beating Boise + SD-State. Toledo's OOC SoS was too weak to make up for stuff. SD-State will be picked over Toledo with a matching record.

Toledo quality wins if things go fairly well this week:
6-6 CMU (beat Big 12 #1/2 Ok St)
7-5 EMU (beat MWC Div Champ Wyoming)
8-4 Ohio (MAC Div Champ)
8-4 Ark St (Sun Belt Champ)
11-1 WMU (ranked for most of yr, 2-0 on road vs Big 10)

Compare that to Wyoming, SDSU, Temple, Navy, S Florida, W Kentucky, La Tech (I think the Rockets compare well to most of that group, but would be a little below Navy, and a toss up with Wyoming and S Florida if they win out) San Diego St prob has the weakest schedule of that group.

Of course, WMU has something to say about all this

We'll see if Ohio can hold onto this 6pt lead at the end of the game against Akron in their own house...

*Okay, Ohio (barely) won. :)

Wyoming wins:
6-6 @Colorado State
7-5 @New Mexico
8-4/9-3 Air Force (possibly beating Boise)
10-3 SD-State (MW Division Champ)
10-2/11-1 Boise State (ranked for most of yr, 2-0 against P12 + Ranked Wash State who could win P12)

SD-State wins (I see where you're coming from; There's no MAYBE on my previous breakdown):
4-8/5-7 P5 Cal (Who at the time, beat Texas & RANKED Utah)
6-6 Colorado State
9-4 Wyoming (MW Div champs who beat ranked Boise and they themselves)
9-4 Wyoming (MW Div champs who beat ranked Boise and they themselves)

Navy wins:
4-8 P5 Notre Dame
7-5 Memphis (beat AAC East Champs)
8-4 Tulsa
9-4 Temple (AAC East Champs)
10-2 Houston (ranked most of the year who beat possible B12 Champ + Louisville)

S Florida wins:
4-8 P5 @Syracuse (who beat then ranked VATech who could end up ranked)
5-7 NIU (Crushed former MAC West Champs by more than anyone in the MAC this year; food for thought)
6-6 UCF
10-3 Navy (AAC West Champs; who beat ranked Houston, P5 Notre Dame)
10-3 Navy (AAC West Champs; who beat ranked Houston, P5 Notre Dame)

Methinks that some OU spy dipped an Akron receiver's gloves in KY before the final drive.

To clarify some talk from this thread, Houston can still go to the Cotton Bowl as an at-large team despite not winning the American. As a matter fact, they should be much higher when comparing resumes with some teams above them.

The SMU loss is the anchor holding Houston back in the rankings; that is a huge loss.

Houston would've needed to go undefeated AND have several top ranked teams fall to be considered for an at-large (or playoff).

They're not going. No Chance. Houston would have to make the Top 10 for that, *maybe* Top 11. In one game, they're not going to go from #20 -> #11.

To make a NY6 bowl, outside of a G5 auto-bid, you need to be in the Top 11. There's 12 teams, and they pick the Top Teams Ranked, *post* automatic bids.

So if a #13 team is the 2nd best in their P5 conference, who's #1 is in the playoff, that #2 is their conf-representative bid into a NY6 bowl -- well, then you need to be in the Top 10 to make it in. Or one who's hardly not ranked like Wisconsin several years ago.

Basically, #11 at Worst. Houston's not making it there, sorry. They have them at #20, and Houston's ran out of ammo to move themselves up.

More importantly, whether Houston is deserving of an "at large" spot or not, the P5 will not allow this to happen. They will not allow an "at large" G5 to steal a piece of the P5 pie!!!

IF Houston was riding the line on it, I think they wouldn't mind it. Houston's not a low-cost, kinda weak SoS whos 1L.

But usually, yeah... But they'd avoid ranking them up high enough. However they have to "point shave" in ranking level weeks prior to the end, otherwise it'd give it away too much.
