I thought he came on strong towards the end of the season last year but no doubt he has been one of our best players on defense this year.

Covering Anthony Miller in man coverage every day in practice will make you get better.

That comfort, and confidence, has come with time. Maulet arrived at Memphis as a junior-college transfer shortly before last season and was immediately inserted into the starting lineup. Or, as he put it earlier this fall: “I was just thrown in there to the sharks.”

Leaning on his athleticism and instincts, Maulet made a few memorable plays over the course of the year, including a pick-six in the first quarter of a nationally-televised win over Cincinnati, but he struggled with consistency.

This year has been different. Defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson said he has seen continued growth from Maulet dating all the way back to spring ball.

RE: Arthur Maulet
So many here railed on him hard last year and unfairly imo. Last year, he was young and obviously the best db we had since he was covering the best receiver on every team every week one on one and with no help. It was the coaches decision to gamble like that which is why teams tested us so many times deep. Anyways, he has improved but there is a much different strategy this year. They are not just one on one. They are mixing it up. That's helping maulet more than anything.

What i thought was so cool was that play happened on 3rd down. On the jumbotron, they had just showed tiger legend db bobby mccain hyping up the crowd to make some noise. Then maulet does something bobby mccain would do. Pick 6. I was so happy for maulet. He got burned a bunch last year, but again, he was one on one every week against the other team's best receiver.

I admit...When I heard Maulet was most improved in preseason, I was skeptical. But he has completely turned it around. Technique, confidence, experience all help when you have talent and work ethic. Good for him.
