Best DBs in NIU History
The Lurry debate on the injury thread got me thing on this one. Lurry being an All American definitely puts him at the top in terms of corners but who else?

Jimmie Ward - CB now w 9ers but a safety and nickel mainly at NIU

Rahsaan Melvin - still in the league

Paris Logan - just his junior year

Randee Drew and Vince Thompson were studs for Novak in the early 2000s.

Who else am I missing?

Ha I said junior year only. He had 77 tackles and 3 picks that year and was All MAC. He looked pretty damn good in 14. Other than that season, totally agree

Lionel Hickenbottom was a beast! I was surprised he never went pro. Tackling machine. My favorite Safety outside of Jimmie Ward. Played big in the Michael Turner era.

Jimmie Ward is the best DB in NIU history. And it's not even close.

I'm a huge Ward fan and he was a first round pick, but Lurry was a 1st Team All American! Hard to argue that...

Unfortunately, he was never the same after Wake Forest took out his knee. But I still loved watching Boogie play.

RE: Best DBs in NIU History
This goes back a few years, but no one could throw on the secondary of the 1983 MAC champions. A big reason why that team finished first and won a bowl game. Rich Burns, Steve Hirsch, Lee Hicks, Jeff Sanders (also a stud kick returner) and Charles Jones(?) Old-timers, did i miss anyone?

Here is a name from the late 80's. What about Kevin Cassidy. His twin brother played WR. He was a Free not a Strong but still had some game.

As far as talent towards relative position I would put Ward as a top 5 player in NIU history. Lurry is a definite baller with some of the best "it" factor NIU has ever seen. I think the only reason he's not up there a bit more is his size limitations.
