What if Hare did not get injured and was running the spread offense like his first 2 years. What would our record be. This is a fun post. I think 7-9 wins

If Huff was the starter all season too? I buy it.. if he's still on the bench.. harder to see it.

We would still have the same coach making dumb decisions. 6 to 7 wins and an exciting bowl game against a middle Sun Belt team.

I don't think our record would be much different because our defense has been pretty weak all season.

Granted they wouldn't be world beaters, but a good and consistent offense can make a defense look much better. Less time in the field, pressure on the opponent to score, things like that.

Even with all our problems we should have won 4 more games.

I don't think the record would have been any different. Hare was not making a difference when he was playing. The biggest factor was coaching, by far far far and away.

Hare only played against Wyoming and USF both of which turned out to be good. We don't lose against WIU with Hare, for one thing.

That's probably true but I wonder if NIU beats Ball State with Hare.

You'd have to think Hare would have improved as the season went on if he remained healthy. I'm sure he lacked som confidence in those first two games about his health and game rust.

That wouldnt change the other issues of this years team, but a healthy and sharp Hare would overcome some of them.

A better coaching staff, personnel decisions and some better luck and we could've beat:

Western Illinois
Central Michigan
Toledo

If Hare had stayed healthy we probably easily beat

That puts us at 7-4 and 6-1 in the MAC.

Less injuries to the rest of the team, Huff playing more, and we might even add WMU and San Diego State to that list and then would be looking at a trip back to Detroit.

Wyoming beat us at full strength with Hare and South Florida blew us out. So, 9-2 probably best case scenario had we stayed very healthy.

Huff beats Wyoming, SDSU, CMU, WMU, and Toledo easily.

What if people stopped being so blind and noticed how bad Rod Carey has been for the program?

Toledo I am a little torn on because it felt like NIU overperformed for most of that game, but most definitely the other three you listed are EASILY in the W column with a different head coach. 3 wins on coaching alone is a huge difference for one season.
