MyBB ICYMI: UNCW Rises to #6 in College Insider's Mid-Major Poll
Men's Mid-Major Top 25

ETSU is #21. So I suppose Sunday qualifies as a battle between unbeaten mid-major powers....

Four other CAA schools receiving votes as well.

Hope Trask is ready for the tilt with ETSU. That's an important W we're gonna need.

The good thing about remaining unbeaten (beyond the obvious) is that it keeps you being "mentioned" and raises your program's profile. You recall last year when UNCW came to be among the short list 'remaining unbeaten teams' early in the season. It's the sort of thing that puts you on people's radar screen that you would not ordinarily be on.

My two cents...

We need to play better than we did the other night against EKU. We have a lot of talent but seem to be too much of a finesse team right now. Not getting any free throws until the very end of the game tells me our big guys aren't doing much inside and our studs aren't taking it strong to the hoop. We have good shooters but can't settle for jumpers all the time.

I also didn't think our pace on offense was what it needs to be. We were in a half court game for most possessions. We need to run! We need to keep the intensity up on both ends of the court! I think it will help when our freshman get a little more comfortable and when Talley returns (hopefully soon!).

The constant fouls on us took us out of our game and slowed the flow of the game, thus not many fast break ops.

ETSU should be significantly higher that 21. I believe they were something like 23 last week. When you beat an A-10 team by 26, even if it's a bottom feeder, that should prop you up a bit.

Agree.

I'm trying to avoid thinking about that though because it makes my nerves rattle.

So... thanks for that.

Not me, just makes me more excited. We have a big opportunity here. We all thought our non-conference schedule was on the weak side heading into this campaign. Well here we are, D-I game # 2 of the season, facing a potential juggernaut mid-major at home, with all the students on campus.

This is everything we could hope for out of a game, other than facing a Top 25 P5 school at Trask.

RE: ICYMI: UNCW Rises to #6 in College Insider's Mid-Major Poll
Ponder looks like a bigger loss than anticipated. He was our drive to the bucket guy who collapsed defenses, drew fouls and got us to the line. Made FT's are one of the best opportunities to ratchet up the press and create TO's.

Richmond and Bryce will drive, but they prefer pull up jumpers. Ingram is more of a 3 point shooter. Flemmings will drive, and right now is our best chance to draw fouls. We also stopped looking for the pass, and everyone went one on one. We can't rely upon our big men to draw fouls, because even if they do, big men aren't the best FT shooters on the team.

The good news is that I have no doubt Keatts will see this and address it. I expect to see Richmond and Bryce finishing at the basket more instead of settling for jumpers and 3's. We had this problem last year, and corrected whenever we settled.

8:40 to go, Davidson has cut a Clemson 20 point lead to 12.

Clemson wins 95-78. This with three key players not available. They have better scoring this year, five in double figures. They, of course, put tight pressure on D. Tigers get winner of #11 Xavier and Missouri tomorrow.

If Jordan gets back in good graces, we all know that #4 will drive the ball to the cup. That's what we need right now and we can get a few more drives from Flemmings and Bryce. Bryce and Flemmigs will drive the ball when needed so don't worry there. I agree that we settled a little bit. It's a good learning experience while still getting a win but we can be better. And, we will be better in the end. This IS a good team! Go Hawks!!

As far as Clemson goes...good for them and Coach B! I hope that they're top rated when we get there to make it a top flight game. I have no doubt, without injuries, that the game will be very entertaining and close regardless of who wins. UNCW can beat any team on their schedule if they play well, including a good Clemson team. The Hawks need to win the next one against an improved ETSU squad.

I thought Ingram spent too much time firing up quick threes, and too little time taking it to the hole in game one. I hope Talley gets back on the court soon.

We beat Fordham by 37. lol

Should be a battle Saturday. I have great respect for the Wilmington program. Was quite the headscratcher when you guys were down for a few years.

It's a looooong story, related to a terrible Chancellor/Administration, and one we don't like to reminisce about if we can avoid it, lol. Suffice it to say we have the right combination of factors going in our direction, finally, and hope to be back on track to being a perennial contender for years to come.
