Salukiblue, I admire your true Tiger Blue and Grey and being a big part of Tigernation with us.....Now i gotta say some real deal Truth and this will hurt a few, but has to be mentioned....Ok Here it goes....Penny was Great and is a Awesome coach now, and was a leader, all very true...No one willl deny that...But rankings are overrated too, now before you blow up here this out all the way through....Penny was somewhat Frail after his injury....John wall too was a Top rated High school kid, won a NCAA National title, was a number one pick, and yet has not made 1 all-star game, has had some injuries and is nowhere near what everyone proclaimed him to be...The Game has changed and AAU is King now for early exposure...But because some kids get that doesn't mean everyone is gonna pan out....I also said, and people know this one too that Thon Maker was bettter than Skal, and guess what he IS....I also said LeGerald Vick was NEVER gonna be a Tiger and he Didn't....I am telling you DJ JEfferies is hands down better than Chandler, no knock on Chandler but DJ is just better....You must not know or have seen David Nickleberry play then...He has a Magic and Jason Kidd type ability with his vision...Kid has Sick Handles and can pop and Shoot, Catch and Shoot, Dribble Drive, great in ISO, is a great athlete, but has that "IT" factor and work Ethic in him.....Not everyone has that type of drive and determination and focus....Jordan had that type of Drive and Hunger.....David "NICKLE" NIckleberry is gonna be a star as his game reminds of a little bit of Magic/ Kidd/ and Klay Thompson.....Yes he has more work to do but the way he is working and the fact he is a gym rat, well he will succeed and he will have TUBBY coaching him and not that Clown Josh Pastner....So there you go...#The World Is Ours Memphis....

I'll add to what Saluki said. Not only was Penny the number 1 prospect coming out of high school, there was a brief period of time while Jordan was either retired or just coming back from retirement and still rusty and Shaq was either injured or had moved on to LA (memory is fuzzy, we are talking about well over 20 years ago)and Penny's role with the Magic was expanded and he was thought by many to be the best basketball player in the world at the time.
