Calixte is picking up some new P5 interest.
So Hurtado commits on the last day of the early signing period but doesn't sign? That's very strange.

RE: Recruiting Updates
Seemed strange to announce on the last day of the early signing period and not sign.

RE: Recruiting Updates
Getting Bryant and Hurtado still wouldnt stop me from offering the best pg instate in D.J. Heath.
I wonder if we really offered G Clayton Hughes he would be the icing on the cake. Grad transfer big man would be the sprinkles someone who could average over 6 boards.

Welp Hughes signed with UNCW so there is that.
I don't understand why we didn't sign one instate guy after being all in on instate guys. D.J. would be the only in state guy I would sign, kid is underrated. Could help with the 3.5 star kid that graduate 2018.

RE: Recruiting Updates
If UAB can find players like Cokley, Bryant, Gueye, and Hurtado, why spend time recruiting instate players anymore?......

I agree. The value of instate players are overrated, especially if you get better players out of state. Time has shown that having instate players do not increase attendance.
This is accurate.
Yes I was referring to Hurtado in the earlier post.

RE: Recruiting Updates
Or you can recruit the right ones like
Haas (the best instate product in recent years)
Smith (i would place at number two at Arizona)
Person (Troy second best guy maybe)
I not too long ago was thinking that maybe we overvalued instate recruiting ,but remembered it wasnt that long ago the state had like 4 pgs or something like that in the final four or elite eight.

RE: Recruiting Updates
Could just go back over the Haase era and see who he missed on instate or out. I think Haas and Tookie Brown are two we definitely missed on off the top of my head.

RE: Recruiting Updates
Agree with you all. Talent is talent, regardless of where it comes from. It's nice to see a Bham area kid stay and play for his hometown squad but it really doesn't matter.
What I like to see is who we beat out for certain players. Bryant and Hurtado both had multiple offers from successful power 5 programs and Gueye had several offers as well.
