NAIA's Brewton-Parker College was up 15 on Kennesaw State at the half in that game. KSU realized it was a D1 school and slipped by 80-74.
I thought those close shaves were reserved for Southland.

Mason saves Kansas and hits the game winner to knock off #1 Duke after Duke had just tied the game with an 8-0 run. No surprise that KU was out of gas at the end, after the trip from Hawai'i to NYC.

Do you want me to point out that our senior leader has been out recovering from achilles surgery, our top young player nearly died in car accident in March and is redshirting this year, and we have 4 new starters (1 true freshman, 2 true sophomores, 1 R-SR)?
Besides Enechionyia, our returning minutes per game:
Dingle (starter): 20.8
Alston Jr. (starter): 10.1
Aflakpui (starter): 7.5
Williams: 9.5
Besides Enechionyia, our returning points per game:
Dingle (starter): 4.4
Alston Jr. (starter): 2.0
Aflakpui (starter): 1.7
Williams: 3.6
Our returning players that are starting averaged 12.8 minutes per game and 2.7 PPG.
We're not exactly trotting out 4 experienced senior starters, with juniors coming off the bench. We barely have a bench, and our top bench player is a true freshman.

They used to be. Where is it saying they are NAIA, other than the outlets picking up the score?
As for your other post about Temple...it is what it is. It's unfortunate Temple's got some issues. They could do worse than losing to an AE member.

A couple of scares for Colorado State, Houston, and South Dakota State, but D1 prevailed.

Halftime score-
Missouri 38 #11 Xavier 36
I boldly predict within 3-4 years, we see most all of these 8 team tournaments go by the wayside. Replaced by ones like the 2k sports classic where you have 4 hosts who get 2 home games per school vs weaker schools, then have a 2 day event in a main place. Too many upsets like this.

This particular tournament is an ESPN event in Orlando. Teams will continue to play it just to stay in ESPN's good graces. Also, this tournament, unlike some others, doesn't include any low-majors. Losing to Missouri isn't ideal for a ranked team, but it's not like losing to UMKC.
Some of the other tournaments, like Great Alaska Shootout, can't attract name teams anymore because no one wants to be in the no-win situation of being one of the only high-major teams in a field of mid and low majors.

It's pretty darn close. Missouri projected last this year for the SEC.
Let's say X loses today. They then get Davidson next round, and then 1 of No Iowa/ Arizona St/ Tulane(assuming Oklahoma beats Tulane). Hardly a stellar situation. NIT was having problems getting teams and they went 4 team and it's better now..
I think ESPN wouldn't mind the 2 day situation much quite frankly. More events where they could have more teams from top conferences.

Purely from a basketball point of view, sure. But from a business point of view ... ESPN has two of these 8-team tournaments in their Disney World complex (the other one is next week). They pick teams from different parts of the USA to sprinkle some more exposure for Disney theme parks to different places. An 8-team tournament is a larger advertisement for Disney than a 4-team tournament.

This 1 isn't normally at Disney- normally in Puerto Rico- but because of Zika got moved to Disney for this year.....
The schools themselves are going to want to go to more of the 4 team events I think.

Xavier won
probably a good idea to not post half-time scores

you do understand on the threads we post in progress scores all the time..
And regardless, not the best look for Xavier. They get Clemson tomorrow- could be really interesting.
