IMO, the longer P.J. stays, the better chance RTB has of surviving his departure. If he leaves after this year, I think it fades pretty quickly. If he sticks around for a while and continues to have anything close to approaching the level of success of this season, it has a chance to continue into the future.

Haha, you guys (WMU fan base) are staying optimistic about your coach just like we were about Matt Campbell last season...when in reality, there's not a chance in hell Fleck comes back next season. I wouldn't be surprised if he already knew where he was going next. That's life in the MAC.

That's exactly what it was. Still a great showcase for WMU in general...but we gotta be real here, everything showcased was Fleck-related. The whole 'row the boat' slogan goes away once Fleck leaves, yet you'd think that was the official motto of WMU by watching GameDay. Since Fleck has the slogan trademarked, I heard the whole locker room and everything will have to be renovated...again.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.

WMU has the slogan trademarked....

01-wingedeagle

I was told that Fleck had it trademarked. Shoot the messenger.

Oh? You were paying Matt Campbell over a million dollars a year? And about to give him an even larger raise? Because my understanding is that in his last year Campbell wasn't even making a base salary of $500,000 a year. Fleck will make over a million dollars this year and they want to give him a large raise.

No two situations are ever similar, that includes Fleck and Campbell. I'm not guaranteeing that Fleck is staying, and he may end up leaving, but to say that, "There's not a chance in hell" is a little ridiculous. Especially since you clearly do not follow Fleck or WMU.

Then it will be really interesting to see who is right: the people who follow WMU and Fleck closely and think he will stay or the outsiders who follow it peripherally and are certain he is leaving. (And ignoring all the people on both sides who don't pretend to know one way or another.)

I think it's 50/50. WMU will come up with between 1.5-2 million to pay Fleck. The real question will be what jobs open up, and will they offer Fleck? He is not leaving for Purdue, it's not a good enough gig. Which job offers he receives will have a big deciding factor on if he stays or goes.

It's a nice thought, him staying. But he'll strike while the iron is hot, as he should. Especially with next year looming -- new QB, replacing our top 3 WRs, and a tougher schedule.

I think some of these guys (coaches) may even want to stay themselves, but you don't want to be the guy that stayed too long at a smaller program and had your window of opportunity and lifestyle upgrade close on you. Agents get in your ear, the idea of never having financial difficulty again fills your dreams. Having a bigger staff. A high-end TV show, etc. You can't miss the boat, so to speak. So you trade in your oars for an outboard motor.

All depends which schools give up creative designs on uniforms and if he can come up with a slogan as catchy as RTB. 03-shhhh

i think making $1,500,000 a year is enough money unless you gamble or love cocaine. fleck is a goofy dude. some schools aren't going to touch him. some middling P5s will chance em hoping he can re-row the boat, but he's made a point of his commitment to WMU and if he jumps for a "ehh" kind of upgrade he 1) loses a lot of credibility and 2) jumps into another tough situation at a place with less patience leading to 3) loss of credibility, high pressure, tough competition and the possibility of a career spiraling downward.

I think he stays unless a good P5 job offers. I don't see Purdue as an upgrade in any real way. Teams like Boise and Houston (and for years Utah and TCU) show that being a top G5 is better than being a mediocre P5 on several levels.

So Texas Tech, Texas, FSU, LSU, Oregon, ASU, UCLA, Arizona who all have coaches on the hot seat (or have coaches that will move up themselves) won't take a shot at P.J, and P.J won't jump to one of those schools? You'd have to think he's a fit at an Oregon, TT, or ASU?

I follow the MAC and our league's history says he's a goner. I also have followed the national coverage and witnessed College GameDay, and the focus has leaned on pimping Fleck, rather than promoting WMU.

The last coach to have a career winning record at ISU was Earle Bruce in in 1973-78. What else precisely defines a dead end job? It's the equivalent of Illinois or Purdue. They've at least been to a Rose Bowl.

Nebraska, TAMU, Mizzou, and Colorado made the old Big12 way harder to win in! Have you seen the league lately? Have you seen how ISU is 1 quarter from beating the best teams in the Big12? They sell out their stadium rain or shine. They have a passionate alum base that just wants bowl games. If he goes 6-6 he is a success for that program and he will do better than that.

I agree Iowa State isn't as big of a dead end job as people are out to make it. The Big 12 only has 2 Blue Blood programs and 1 of them (Texas) is down at the moment. Also, Baylor. whose been one of the better programs recently. has some serious issues that need resolved.
