Ding Ding Ding...

Still don't know who is our short yardage back...Seems like it is whoevers turn it is to be on the field at the time.

Horrible no call, without a doubt. Dude's doing a pull-up. Still, this game was not lost on that one play. Give up 49 points and you'll lose a lot. Way too many big plays given up on that side of the ball.

True about the 49 points, but USF avgs 44 per game, with their lowest output being 30 vs Temple. My point is that they score against EVERYONE - they are virtually unstoppable.

This is one of the reasons I get so frustrated with referees swallowing their whistle late in games under the guise of "letting the players decide it on the field". That no call on a clear penalty decided the game.

Depends in what part of the hand. The back of the hand on the ground and a player is down.

Yes, yes and yes again. 3 yards and 3 downs with a timeout. You have to run at least once...

Tigers got gifted some second half stuff against Temple, so this evens it out I guess.

6-4 either way.

1. Well, if the guy doesn't hold, it's a TD.

2. If the hold is called, it's 1st and goal from the 1. Likely TD out of that.

3. The most implausible option (clear penalty, no call, no catch) occurred.

No one second guesses if option 1 or 2 happen.

Could it be possible the ref(s) were laying USF at -3, wanting the game to be over, with USF maintaining a 7 point margin? Nah, I'm sure, no way, right? Never mind, just me thinking out loud. 03-shhhh

See that bump in the left arm of the defenders bicep? His arm is contracting - pulling the receivers arm away from the receiver's body. Smart to do to prevent a touchdown. Maybe the ref will miss the call. Oh wait!

You can't have 4 drops like we did in the 1st half Saturday night. 2 of those were on 3rd down that stopped drives. The Ferguson into was also terrible....killed our momentum.

Yes, it was a horrible no-call, but it never should have come down to that play.

That's fair. When you let someone hang 49 on you, it's hard to complain. That said, there is always something you can go back to and say "if we hadn't let that happen". I just think this was so horribly overlooked it has to be given more visibility. And it literally decided the game. I'd like to see college football introduce some sort of rule for review of ANYTHING in the last 2 minutes where the game could be decided, etc etc - need to think that through, but seems like a good idea.

That was so bad I think the USF kid knew he was doing it. You know - to keep us from scoring (the 1st down would be better than the TD). But then they didn't call it. Absolutely unbelievable this wasn't called.

This. That was a clear intentional grab. About like the call where the D Lineman almost ripped Dorceus' head off. Nothing "Unintentional" about it.

The play before that one was a clear facemask no call too.

Coach said in the post game "I'm not going to comment on the officiating," but you could tell he wasn't happy with it

Perhaps he should.

Dropped passes and the INT definitely impacted the game. No doubt. That's still no excuse for this missed call. You have 2 guys down there with the job to look for this exact thing. It happened out in the open - not a mob of people. Everyone in the stadium saw it and it was obvious. There is zero excuse for missing this call. Was it the only thing that cost us the game? No. But it did have a major impact and it's egregious.

ESPN could not wait to get the next game on tv. There were program alerts and cutting in for highlights, I think they got the call from the truck to get this garbage over with so we can move on.

Article 3.B states the ball is dead when any part of the players body, except for his hand or foot, touches the ground.

Does not mention which part of hand

Right, do a simple experiment. Go, grab a football and act like you are going to fall and use the back of your hand to stabilize yourself. Notice your hand is not strong enough, and your wrist inevitably touches the ground and is what is actually used to help regain balance. I have seen this called a hundred times. So, back of the hand or wrist, either way the runner will be called down 99.9% of the time because a body part other than the hand or foot touches the ground...
