RE: Alabama clinches a playoff berth
They clinched a birth in the SEC Championship game, but not in the playoffs. If they lose both to Auburn and in the Championship game they likely won't make it in the playoffs.

Ya, I'm sure Alabama could lose both those games....
It may be informal, but they're in...they're not losing to the SEC East Champ, and that's the only game they have to win to get in

Alabama clinches a playoff berth
If Michigan, Louisville, and Washington all go down tonight, this could wind up being the playoff:
1) Alabama vs 4) Penn State
2) Ohio State vs 3) Texas A&M
If Colorado and Oklahoma win out I could see them moving up to #3 and #4, although that would require them to move them ahead of teams who wouldn't have lost. Colorado would at least have a 13th data point, but Oklahoma would not.

The word "clinch" implies that it's formal that they are in. It may be a 99-1 shot, but they could indeed lose both those games. However improbable, it remains possible until the games are played.

RE: Alabama clinches a playoff berth
Yeah, Alabama's not officially in. But it's hard to see them not making it.
Clemson's still likely in despite their loss. They control their destiny and have winnable games ahead. They could stumble, but a one loss ACC champ almost certain gets in
The Big 10 is a bit of a mess. If Michigan wins the showdown with OSU, they probably make it. They still must win the Big 10 Championship, which is no gimme. But they control their path. If Ohio State wins, it opens the door for Penn State. It's hard to see a path for Ohio State. They need some help.
Washington also controls its own destiny, much like Clemson. Unlike Clemson, they have some tougher games coming up. So it's much tougher odds for them. Very plausible, just not as certain.
Where it gets very interesting is if Washington loses again and/or if a two loss teams wins the Big 10 (Penn State or Wisconsin or even Nebraska). A two loss Pac-12 champ is a tougher sell, though it depends what else is on the table at that point. It should open the door for teams like Oklahoma or Louisville or even West Virginia (they seem a better bet than Oklahoma since they have just the one loss). All don't have clear paths right now, but could find one if they get help. If Ohio State beats Michigan, it pretty much knocks out Michigan. But it should send Penn State to the championship game. And if Penn state loses, then what? Wisconsin stands the most to gain, but would a 2 loss conference champ Wisconsin get in over a 1 loss Ohio State? Probably.

I don't think Conference Champ is the end all be all. I don't see PSU getting in with two losses. Sorry. I think OSU and UM are in if they win out despite PSU possibly winning the division. I'd go:
1. Bama 13-0
2. OSU/UM 11-1/12-1
3. Clemson 12-1
4. PSU/Wisconsin 11-2/Wash 12-1/UL 11-1
I think Wisconsin would be in for sure. No idea who would be behind them.

Colorado, if they win out, should stand to gain quite a bit of ground - they will likely have three top 25 opponents left (Washington State, Utah, and then Washington), but I don't know if it's enough to overcome the Big 10 logjam at the top.

Colorado needs to win out and hope Michigan wins out...and hope West Virginia loses again

If Penn State wins out, they'll have a conference championship AND a win over Ohio State...I think they'll definitely be in, ABOVE Ohio State

And Penn State got some help today ... their OOC loss was to Pitt, which just beat Clemson.
Whichever of That School Up North, the Buckeyes or Penn State goes to the CCG, I reckon if they win out and win the CCG, they are in it. Might be as #4, but as the Buckeyes have already showed, you can win it all from that position.
