That was even happening in the exhibition game...against a D-II school.

Pretty good battle. The Rockets have a lot of work to do, though.

Tough loss. I think we should be prepared for more things of those thru at least December, maybe even January. What I did like was that we stayed in contact with them up until that last minute of the game. No small matter given it was an A-10 team on the road (yes, I know St. Joe's isn't expected to be that good this year, but even the second-tier A-10 teams are better than many MAC teams). Guard play needs to get better on both ends of the court and we will need to develop depth at all 5 positions. Still think this will be a better team in February than they are today...for TK's I at least hope so.

RE: MBB: Toledo at St. Joe's game thread
rockets lose 77-76. tough one to lose, but we will need time to figure a few things out.

dewzierski will be very good, although he was kind of lost out there down the stretch. once he learns how to use his ability to drive to also find shooters our offense will click more.

taylor played well. stayed within himself. was solid inside. not much of a shot blocker despite his length but good on boards.

jonjon looked sharp but i think there is a bit of a juice brown curse the past 2 years. juice was so good taking over late in games that jonjon kind of sees himself in that role and he isn't that great of a one on one scorer. he forced his last few possessions and that turned the game to st joes.

good to see adway find himself a bit. not sure if it will show on the stats but he had a stretch of the 2nd half where he used his athleticism and smarts and made plays for teammates.

navigato is a love hate guy. threw up a ton of shots and wasn't hitting many but stayed focused and knocked a couple key ones down.

defense was a little better. sanford and lauf started to control their guards but dewzierski has a hard time guarding off the dribble. would like to see more emphasis on inside help when the defense gets broken down. guys gotta leave their man and crash the lane.

st joes isn't as good as last year but they were solid. made shots, battled, played their roles. not a likely ncaa team but could be a top 100 club.

coach k played a lot of guys but the spaniard never saw the floor, wonder if that wrist problem is an issue.

Gotta think Antunez is injured. He's really the only true PG we have other than the true freshman Roberts, who I think is a bit overmatched at this level.

Not impressed with Antunez. Isn't Sanford a PG?

No, Sanford is pretty much a spot up shooter. Antunez looked pretty sharp in limited minutes at the exhibition. Steady and fairly quick. Certainly ahead of Roberts and maybe even Stuckey in understanding the game.

How are you gonna judge the poor kid (Antunez) when he didn't even play against St. Joes and played well in the exhibition game, not sure it's fair to judge him after one half of play...

RE: MBB: Toledo at St. Joe's game thread
dewzierski can be a capable pg, he just needs time to learn how to use his strengths-attacking the backet- under control. he is tough, can handle and has quickness on the offensive end.

sanford can play some point, he is a good ball handler, but not really a true pg. he is more than a spot up shooter, but doesn't always play with full confidence and let it all hang out. if he gets to a point where he can stop thinking and just go, he will be real good.

to me the key is still gonna be jonjon learning to trust his teammates and not get outside himself. he is very good on offense when he spots up, attacks openings off the dribble, gets out on the break, and pulls up for open jumpers. when he starts to hog the ball puts his head down and forces things with his right hand dribble he is a liability. on the final few possessions vs st joes, he waved off teammates and tried to go 1 on 3 and it didn't work. he did the same thing down the stretch of games last yr.

if we can use our strengths and spread the floor we have guys - DD, taylor- who can be one on one mismatches- and guys-sanford, Jonjon, Navigato- who can spot up and shoot.

All I have to say is thank you for the link to this game. I hope you young guys keep that up so us old guys (not so computer savvy) can watch.

We have a game tomorrow, no? What's the chances it will be broadcast? On another note, I haven't heard the new "Mark Beier." Looking forward to that if it's all that's available.

Go Midnight Blue.

The good -
Steve Taylor 33 minutes 14 pts 7 boards and only one foul
Jonathan Williams 18 pts in 26 minutes
Dandy Dan 13 pts in 21 minutes
Good rebounding especially from Navigato and Taylor
as usual - energy and Defense from Jordan Lauf

The bad
12 assists and 17 turnovers
Zach Garber 3 reb, 5 pts, 2 t0s 5 fouls and only 20 minutes playing time
Nate Navigato 2 for 8 from 3, 3 for 11 overall and no free throws
Rockets only got to the stripe for 16 attempts

BTW St Joseph’s forward James Demery has suffered a stress fracture in his left foot and will be sidelined for a few weeks,

the refs wouldn't let garber breathe near an opponent without calling a foul
