In the spirit of schadenfreude, let's try to predict which ranked team will be the first to lose to an unranked mid-major or low-major team.

UCLA is a too-easy choice; they're almost always good for an embarrassing pre-conference loss or two.

I'm going to go with North Carolina.

Tulsa loses at home to Jacksonville State by double digits.

not going to be an upset, but Tulane is only losing to UNC 81-68 pretty late in the game.

Hahaha who is butthurt? I know my team stinks. Thats why I casually root for the teams I used to watch in the Big East. Well the ones I don't hate at least. I make my rooting interests known upfront, unlike you who doesn't even put up front who he roots for.

How do you choose which teams to still root for? The ones who gave you the less severe of the butt whoopins you took for years? 03-lmfao

Tennessee lost to Chattanooga who is mid-major but not a cupcake. When I predicted UNC was going to lose to a mid-major, I was thinking of the Heels' game vs. Chattanooga next week.

Are the rules the same for basketball schadenfreude as they are for football, or are there differences?

Given that we've expanded it to "schadenfreude", any team's miserable loss that makes someone else happy should qualify. As long as the loss is not unsurprising. An example from Friday: Even if someone out there takes pleasure in every Lafayette loss, their lopsided loss to #4 Villanova shouldn't qualify here.

I'd put in as an entry. the fact that we may have already seen the best game of the season on day 1 of the season...... That Indiana/Kansas game was something else. amazing they have not seen each other in a game in over 20 years.

Every time I flipped over to that game, KU was throwing up bricks. I assume they were rebounding well or creating a lot of turnovers to stay in the game.

Between that game and the Arizona-Michigan State buzzer beater, the fans in Hawai'i got a pretty good show.

both teams shot 31-71 for the game. Indiana made more 3's- but Kansas got to the line a bit more and converted. Forced 19 turnovers. For a 1st game- a really good one.

Kansas looking at 0-2 start with next one with Duke. Love college hoops where teams can schedule like this with no fear.

Rankings are meaningless for the most part at this point. But still not a good night for UConn.

I agree Steve, I love me some college hoops!

It may be the purest form of sport we have left in America, buzzer beaters and true Cinderellas. Gotta love it!

Penn State doesn't have an easy one this season, either. Losing to Albany right off the bat...this could get ugly. It's a young club with a lot of potential and talent, but there isn't experience to muscle them through.

I think a really bad season gets Chambers booted. It's been long enough, and yet, yikes, that's the kind of respectable scheduling Penn State has needed to do for years. It would be pure garbage because of that (considering how much of a coward DeChellis was in scheduling, then his comments he could fling from a place that has no real basketball culture), but it sets a stronger foundation for a new guy to start off right.
