I think everyone is expecting an ass kicking. The excitement over what this season could have been is gone. 03-zzz

RE: The interest and excitement
I can hardly control my enthusiasm.

I've been a season ticket holder since the day after Fedora was hired, suffered through the EJ year and Monk's first... making the four hour trip and all of the expenses that come with it. I've only made the trip up two times this year. I'm gonna try to make the LT game, but not positive yet.

I've really surprised myself this season at how I'm "okay" with that. I sat at home last week and watched it on TV and not one time did I wish I was there. I think I'm just worn out with the never ending headache that is being a USM fan.... That and two teenage kids that are wearing me out running all over the Florida panhandle.

Well said, FWB. Can't speak for everyone, but that's the way I feel. Been a season ticket holder since 98', and the time, effort and expense is getting to be way too much.

Been a fan since 1996. Suffering through the EJ debacle was tough along with Monken's first two years. Was hoping for a somewhat special year, especially after the Kentucky win.
I used to never miss a home game but last weekend I could care less if I was there. Not worth the effort or expense. Fire for this year is gone. I'll get sucked back in next year only to be disappointed though.

What our leadership needs to remember is that USM must compete for people's entertainment dollar. It's not a loyalty issue. Is going to a USM game worth a person's time, money, and investment. And it seems that many long time fans (you guys are FAR from the only ones I know that feel that way) are at that point. Something needs to be done to reinvigorate our fanbase because right now, we're in a really bad state.

its hard to get excited about a coach that puts you to sleep every time you hear him speak. Combine that with the awful product on the field then you get lack of support from the fan base.

toss in the fact that many alumni's kids have know grown up and are in the latter years of HS or in college....I took my daughter to every game for ten straight years....not one in the last three (she has developed her set of friends now)

our group of 20+ disbanded after '12 once their kids demanded more of their time....

HS soccer/volleyball on saturdays can be a juggling act for those that have to travel...

and we had 'em coming from Atl to Houston....

Yes, a longer drive. Father Time is causing me to drain my lizard a lot more often. It'll get you one day too.

RE: The interest and excitement
Never missed a home game from age 5 to 48 and had "seasoned" tickets and Eagle Club for 25 years (and my parents for 50!)...and while I still love my sports teams, the university itself is such a cauldron of clueless a-kissers, who constantly fete each other with "great job, Brownie" awards, that it has become laughable, comical and self-destructive.

That's why I was glad to move away from it (although I have lots of friends whom I miss) ...and I haven't looked back.04-cheers

We had a great chance to show we were PROactive, and not REactive, when our natural rivals moved to the AAC. Don't give me the horse-chit about televisions and metro areas, if we had developed long-standing ties and relationships with our ex-CUSA brethren, they woulda gladly acepted USM.

But, as always, we did it OUR way...and hired smug, aloof a-holes because they were either "one of us" (supposedly), someone's friend, ex sports "stars", or part of the good ol' boys club.

Now we reap what we have sewed...03-lmfao

Tulane, Memphis and other former conference brethren now come into Mississippi and "steal" our players, and I'm sure one of their talking points is this: "You wanna play ODU, Sweet Charlotte and Florida Int'l Airport in front of 2,000 people?" Hayell No!

Talent is down....the chip on our shoulder attitude belongs to other schools now...and we hire coaches on the cheap to make ends meet..

Crikey...I should become a Wal Mart Alabama fan so I can be happy purty much every weekend in the fall!!04-cheers

that's another good way to phrase it looking back inside from the outside....

we can't schedule value anymore...

the tv contract is dogshite....

we compete for recruits with at least 10 more schools than in the past....

p5 dollars are unrealistic in relative terms....

it's a no win scenario other than finding a guy that can evaluate talent and run up tempo offense/defense schemes....

speed can kill at this level.....will it always work???....nope.....but it's beats the living shite out of the nonsense that is playing out today....

But if you ask anyone in leadership, we're the problem. We don't support our program. We don't support our coaches. We don't give enough to the Eagle Club or buy enough season tickets. They tend to ignore all you've done and place the blame on your doorstep instead of looking in the mirror and realizing the truth.

RE: The interest and excitement
Also, if we were as proactive and social media savvy as advertised, you'd think someone in Athletics would make a post on here or on the USM website and show some transparency. USM is a university, but it's not a large one by any means. Multi-million dollar companies have learned that the best way to grow and keep a fanbase is with transparency and reality. If game companies can post once or twice a month with a "here's where we're at, here's where we know you aren't satisfied, and this what we're going to do about it", you'd think someone down in Hattiesburg could as well.

If they want to build trust back with this fanbase, it's gotta start somewhere.

under the bus they continue to toss.....and .lost-hip-hop alluded to that this week....

this staff is clueless at this point....and it pisses 'em off when they deservedly get called out....

that's what I loved the most about Monk....he flat out told ya "why" better than the average 'coach speak'....

Hop's a putz if he doesn't step on the right toes moving forward in southern miss terms....

maybe curley will hire him as an assistant.....

this is all about winning games that should be won.....and he and his staff are failing miserably right now.....

this isn't '12....but it's miserably close....

I don't care if one likes that description or not.....

Yup. It's exactly that. Our "Anytown USA," good-enough, 3:55PM rush hour mentality has killed us. I guess this is what "being fine" looks like.

OK, I'm curious ... just how much less could you have cared? Sorry - just looking for a bit of humor in this disappointing year.
