How'd your other elections go?
I'm just curious to see. as we mentioned on an earlier thread some of the non-Presidential elections to see what your other elections were like?

For instance, Missouri: The people voted:

69-30 to limit campaign donations and to require that all contributors be named (No more "dark money")

Two ballots to increase cigarette taxes bombed:
40-59 and 44-55

Voter ID required; Passed : 63-36 (by 2/3rds of the state!!)

Cannot create new taxes based on services (so no more "HOtel room taxes", "Car rental taxes/fees", "Battery disposal tax", etc.): 57-42

despite all the polls saying that Democrats would win the major races:
Senate (republican): 49-46
House: No change 2 Dems, 4 Reps
Governor (Republican): 51-45 (polls said the Repubican was going to lose this by 6 to 9 points minimum)
State senate: 25 Reps, 9 Dems
State House: 163 slots all up for grabs: Went Republican 117-46 (only the city areas of St. Louis, Kansas City, and Distric 118 went Democrat)

All our major state races: Lt Gov, Sect of State, Atty General, Treasurer

All Went Republican... The only one I thought might go Democratic was Lt. Gov, cause the Carnahan name is "politcal machine" in Missouri.. but even that one went REpublican.

Thanks for the info. On my ballot the only other candidates were Demon-crats and the only Republican on a ballot was Trump. Remember, I live in the Demon-cratic utopia of El Paso, Texas.

Missouri voters may have finally woken up..

NC republicans had a very good night including sweeping the multiple court of appeals seats up for grabs and winning all but a couple state council positions but they had 2 big losses.

Mccrory lost because of HB2 demonization. Whats ironic though is him sticking around after a squeaker would have probably resulted in a change. But since he lost the new legislature with their super majorities really has no reason to work with Cooper and thus hb2 is likely here for now although....

Another HUGE surprise was the republican defeat on the NC Supreme court. The dems now control the supreme court by a 1 vote margin. I attribute the loss as this being the only race where the republican was not labeled by party on the ballot. It was also the only race where the republican was listed second. I expect that to be changed by the midterm.

Now that the dems have a 1 vote margin on the supreme court I would not be surprised if HB2 is overturned by the NC Supreme court

RE: How'd your other elections go?
Here in NC we (Democrats) won a State Supreme Court seat that gave us a majority. That was very important as for the last 6 years Republicans have controlled all three branches. I don't know if we can keep it as the state constitution allows the general assembly to increase the number of justices. There is a rumor circulating that they may pass legislation to do that and then appoint two Republicans to the Court.

We appear to have taken back the governor's mansion but it is too close to call. The council of state was really a mixed bag. We appear to have won Attorney General as well.

The General Assembly continues to be totally controlled by the Republicans with super majorities so winning the governorship is a limited victory.

My county is totally Republican. We now have only one Democrat on the School Board and one County commissioner, down from two. Our Clerk of Court and Register of Deeds are Democrats but when they retire I suspect that will change as well.

I live in a very Republican world.

RE: How'd your other elections go?
Houston was all Dem. Every single county wide Harris County official running as a Democrat won. There were 2 county wide Dems on Monday... Now there are about 30 of them. Harris County went Dem for the first time in decades in 08 by about 3 percent. In 2012 Obama won by less than 0.1%. HRC won by 13%. Dems won Fort Bend County too.

In Dallas it was the same story. Literally hundreds of Dems turned out Republicans on Tuesday.

10% was the statewide margin for DJT on Tuesday. 16% for Romney in 2012. I think the GOP will need to worry about Texas in about 8 years.

What county Dawg?
New Hanover county did a 2 to 1 gop to dem split on the county commissioner's maintaining the gop 3 to 2 edge

School board was a GOP sweep maintaining the 5 to 0 GOP advantage on the school board. New Hanover is big on neighborhood schools and does not appear to want to do anything to put that at risk again

I really hope the GOP does not do any stupid court packing crap. Just make it a partisan race and it will likely fix itself at the midterm.

Not even close Tom for the past 10-ish years. THere have been a lot of Republican names, but they have for the most part been blue dog-democrat types. The two cities have been democratic strongholds, but the farmland part of Missouri has been a lot of liberal Republicans/blue-dog democrats, and the majority of the political machines has been hardcore liberal (not progressive) Democrats.

I'm no tobacco smoker. But why the hell do Democrats ALWAYS want cigarette taxes higher? The *excuse* is public health, but they NEVER COME CLOSE to generating revenue sufficient to cover their costs on the healthcare system. And it is THE MOST REGRESSIVE TAX IN THE COUNTRY!! Poor people are the most likely to smoke. So you tax the s*** outta poor people??? I f'n hate nickel-and-dime gimmick taxes.

The argument was that MIssouri has one of the lowest cigarette taxes in the nation comparatively.. And they were 'promising' that the tax money was only going to go for #1) child-health and then #2) for services for older people.

Problem was everyone knew that was a BS part of the amendment (they said the same thing about Lottery money that had a tendency to end up in General funds instead of specifically being set aside for the Education dept), which was why it was shot down so much (That and they had it written to increase taxes to ridiculous high amounts over 10 years, to near IL and NY tax levels).

That's why Amendment 4 (the no new 'sales' taxes was so important as well.)

Basically as long as it stands up in court (and I think it will), they can no longer propose a tax on a single specific item/service any more.

Just heard the rumor today, not sure how possible it is, but wouldn't shock me.

With or without the R or D by the name, the party that has the advantage (recently the Rs) will make sure voters know who their candidate is. That was what was so shocking about the margin in the Morgan race. You know as well as do that every Republican sample ballot handed out at the polls had Edmonds name on it. Perhaps it was the ballot placement, or people just liked the name, or maybe word of mouth or reputation?

Maybe it was the unaffiliated effect? There were a lot of people that voted for Trump and then Cooper.

So now law makers are can grease skids to get their pay raises and not own it..
