Kent State vs. Cleveland State
The Flashes open the season on Saturday against Gary Waters and his CSU Vikings. The game will be played at the beautiful Beeghley Center on the campus of Youngstown State.

The Vikings are young. The lone senior on the roster is starting post Demonte Flannigan. Otherwise, the CSU roster includes 8 juniors, 4 sophomores and a pair of freshman. Flannigan (6'7 240) will probably be the anchor for CSU in the early part of the season. He averaged 11 points and 5 boards per game last season. Sophomore Rob Edwards (6'4 200), a member of the Horizon League's All Freshman Team, put up 21 points in their big win over Tiffin last week.

CSU was 9 - 23 last season. Of course, the grad transfer rule blew up a team that a few years ago Waters was probably thinking could compete for an NCAA berth. Clearly the Vikings are going through a bit of a youth movement.

As for the good guys my eyes will be on the following:
*Are there enough pieces around Jimmy Hall? And is he mature enough to handle it if it takes time to answer that question.

*Is there are point guard in the bunch? I was a big fan of Kellon Thomas. But he was limited. It has been a long time since the Flashes have had a dual threat handling the point. There is reason for optimism if you look at the roster.

*Can De La Rosa be counted on to log 20+ productive minutes per night? Many posts have transferred to Kent State in the last few years and many have been disappointing. If he can break the trend I will be a happy Flash.

And lastly, for burden:
Kent State 73
Cleveland State 59
Jimmy Hall messes around and gets a (double) double.

I cannot wait for this team. A lot of questions but there are plenty of reasons for optimism. We will be there. You have to purchase tickets thru YSU. 330-941-1978.

Talshaun Johnson, the transfer guard from South Alabama, will have to sit out the whole year. KSU had hoped he would be available second semester.

RE: Kent State vs. Cleveland State
I'm pretty excited for this season to start. On paper I like the way our team has shaped up. I imagine we'll experience some growing pains with the lack of experience but we've definitely got some upside.

Too bad on Johnson, but hopefully we'll have the PG spot figured out by the time he would've been eligible anyways. We don't have much Kent St experience at that position but Avery has a year under his belt and Zabo and Ridenour both have prior D1 experience. So I think we've got the personnel in place to get the job done.

We'll need at least two post players other than Hall to be productive. I have high hopes for De La Rosa and from the sounds of it Edwards will be able to contribute good minutes. It will be very interesting to see how those two and the two freshman, Pippen and A. Walker, look and who is able to separate themselves.

I hoping the wing will be a bright spot for us. I'm expecting good seasons from Edwin and J. Walker. Last year we struggled to shoot the three so if what we're hearing about DeBerry is true and if Walker has made strides we should be better from deep. It'll be interesting to see what we get out of Ridenour and if he's ultimately at the one or two. He's the wildcard to me. I don't really know what to expect.

Excited to see what we have!

No Flanigan for CSU and Mitch Peterson off to a good start. Interesting.

CSU has been really hot in the second half. We're giving them good looks though too.

What the hell, why did we have 4 guards in there on that last play? You still gotta get the board after forcing a miss...

Correct. Frustrated by the no response to a CSU run. And excited about Peterson.
