NFL Daft 2017 - Corey Davis
Now that we are into the latter part of the season, I thought it might be interesting to see what's going on with Davis and his draft stock.
- WalterFootball.com (Updated 11/5):
They have Corey Davis ranked as the 8th best WR. Little surprising considering their sources had him ranked as a second rounder last year, and yet they have him ranked as a 2-3 rounder.
They had this to say about him recently, "On the year, Davis has hauled in 61 receptions for 1,011 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has continued to impress with his route-running, hands, size and quickness. Davis is a polished receiver who would be a great fit in a West Coast offense."
- CBSSports.com (Updated 11/4):
They have Corey Davis ranked as the fourth best WR in this draft class, and have him graded as a 1-2 rounder. They had the following to say about him back on 09/1:
"Scouts want to see how Davis will respond in 2016 with his former running mate Daniel Braverman now running underneath routes for the Chicago Bears. The loss of the speedy slot receiver could allow defenses to bracket Davis and limit his production. Polishing up some of the little things and performing well in post-season all-star game opportunities and workouts, however, could cement Davis as one of the top receiver prospects in the country and a top 50 prospect in the 2017 NFL draft."
CBSSports published a mock draft today, where there are three WR taken in the first round, none of which are Davis.
- Draftutopia.com (10/2):
Corey Davis is ranked fourth, projected second rounder. Here's a snippet from what they had to say:
"His two weaknesses are that he can drop passes at times and that he struggles to catch the ball in traffic. I saw him struggle in traffic against Darqueze Dennard as a true freshman and Anthony Brown in 2014 as a sophomore. Davis is great at getting separation, but struggles when pressed because he has trouble catching the football in traffic meaning that Davis has to rely on his speed to get separation when running deep routes and streaks. I'm not sure how Davis will do blocking on running plays, but he won't be as good as JuJu Smith-Schuster or Mike Williams based on the tape I watched of the 2017 wide receivers.
Corey Davis is a senior. Davis may be a first round prospect, but he may end up playing in the 2017 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama if scouts don't see him as a first round prospect by December."
- Draftwire.usatoday.com (11/2):
Corey Davis is ranked as the #2 WR and #31/32 overall prospect (They have Davis ranked as #32 along with another player also at #32, and there is no one ranked at #31, Davis is listed first though which leads me to believe he is #31).
- Todayspigskin.com (11/5):
Corey Davis is ranked #3 among WR. They had this to say, "Western Michigan’s Corey Davis (14) and Washington’s John Ross (11) have put up impressive numbers in terms of touchdowns this season. Davis, in particular, has corralled 47 career touchdowns playing in head coach P.J. Fleck’s offensive system."
- Bleacherreport.com (11/4):
They have a top fifty, with three WR listed. No Davis in the top 50.
