wmu would play in the cotton bowl if they play in one, the orange bowl is contracted to the p5 conferences this year.

I'm hoping WMU makes the Cotton Bowl, but I doubt PJ will coach the game.

there are rumblings that they may privately fund his salary over the million dollar threshold to keep him in Kalamazoo.

Heard the same thing about Petersen at Boise, but he went to Washington anyway. If LSU, Oregon, USC come calling, he's gone. If Vandy and Purdue are his only options, you might be right. Either way, WMU will not be this good next year, and PJ knows it.

Well written article from the New York Times. We were WMU with the Orange Bowl run. It is ironic we have nothing to show for it years later. School attendance down, game attendance down, donations down, coaching down, recruiting down, budget down and expenses up.

I knew after the game that it would happen. The Athletics Dept. failed to capitalize on the tremendous excitement and publicity. There was no marketing and a push for more season ticket sales. This was a marketer's dream, but not much was done. It seemed like they closed shop and went on vacation. The sizzle eventually fizzled and the rest is history.

Our coach and AD left, no one was there to capitalize.

Agree.

There should have been a billboard every 5 miles from Lake Cook to 57 on tristate, every expressway west of 294. They should have went to bars, organizations with posters, pocket schedules and pitched dirt cheap group tickets.Ad on internet (since no one reads papers) and commercials. No one understood the concept of spending a few bucks to get people there. Instead, an opportunity was seen to raise single game prices only then discount numerous times and tick off season ticket holders. Instead of possibly modernizing the facility piece by piece, lets add a club and some boxes that don't get utilized and decide to have a master plan which is a pipe dream that everyone wants to blame the budget on.

To this day, they don't know how to market a game to save their lives.

Yep. Did you see the ads in the Chicago papers advertising the Chi Town Showdown? Me neither.

They ran 1/4 page ADS in the Daily Herald every day for the past 2 weeks.

No offense to people who still like newspapers, but that is a quickly sinking ship and not where I would spend my advertising dollars. There are a number of other ways to effectively advertise, though. Many of which are not too expensive.

Sunday, Monday, Friday. Those are the days people read the paper.

And I think in sports section after some baseball team won a big game the other day would have worked out well.

I have no idea what an 1/4 page in any paper costs. And I am sure Herald is a lot less.
