No worries, Southern Miss will end up with both Nix and West. We prefer recycled trash. Go Green

It's what I'm expecting. Maybe it'll be a pleasant surprise. But I doubt it.

I'm not expecting it. I mean to do that might as well have kept Nix.

There is no benefit in firing Nix and just placing West there. I expect more.

It's par for the course. When is the last time Stockstill hired a good DC (answer: more than 10 years ago). I hope I am surprised but not holding my breath. We have made consistently "flopped" coaching choices for a while now.

Wouldn't wish that on wkcc.

If Holt doesn't go to Purdue, If I'm stock, I would take that 300k we were paying Nix and add about 100k from my own salary to it to lock him down. If we got Holt or Woody, I would be ecstatic. Either one of those 2 would be home run hires.

If West gets it, I think I'm about done too and I'm as die hard MT as it gets. It would just be more than I could take. To be honest. I don't think West wants that responsibility. He just wants to cruise into the sunset.

With what our offense did before the UTSA game, if we had a halfway decent defense, we would have been undefeated or a 1 loss team. A bad D with an offense that sputtered due to injuries really caused us to derail. Here's hoping we get a Holt or a Nate Woody. I love Holt's attitude and fire. WKU's new coach and their AD was dumb to let him go.

I'm hearing Holt is probably headed to Purdue. I was pretty down about us not keeping him. But I will have to hope Sanford has made a good call on our new DC. There's a lot of good guys out there. I hope we got one of them. I thought Brohm might take some of that assistant big money and try to snag a bigger name at DC but in the end maybe he couldn't find someone he trusts more than Holt if he ends up there. Good luck to all of them. They gave me my best 2 years as a football fan.

If Stockstill gives the job to West even I'm going to look away like I didn't see it happen. Talk about cringe.

I recommend Duggan

He was successful at USM and started with nothing.

Holt's D was terrible. WKU won by outscoring, not playing fantastic defense. WK consistently gave up 40+ and simply had a great offense to compensate.

T. Nix has been a great DC when he had players from previous coaches.

Once he gets "his" players in, things change for the worst.

Been like that everywhere he has went.

I thought USM fans knew football. lol. Your butt must still hurt from 2015 CCG.

2016 WKU stats
Scoring Offense: 1st in CUSA at 45.5 ppg
Scoring Defense: 1st in CUSA at 24.6 ppg

2015 WKU stats
Scoring Offense: 1st in CUSA at 44.3 ppg
Scoring Defense: 3rd in CUSA at 25.9 ppg (Marshall 1st at 17.8 USM 2nd at 25.6)

Result = 2 conference championships. Result = you don't know football.

If not already mentioned, where will Ty Nix's son play now? I know the article says that he will play where his dad coaches, but his dad may be out of coaching for at least a year or he might go to the NFL.

If Tyrone is out of college coaching I could see the son attempting to go to Ole Miss as Tyrone's brother (and former USM running back/GA/asst coach) Derick coaches there

If I had to bet, a transfer to a 1aa/fcs like tennessee state is more likely...

Yep. He didn't really sniff the field at MT and from all I've seen he would be much better served going to an FCS program where he could actually play.
