ECU on the verge of sitting Philip Nelson & naming Gardner Minshew the starting QB

'(Nelson) is gonna have to be able to practice to (play) especially with the performance that Gardner was able to come in and do. He's been good every time he's come in." - Scottie Montgomery

“Right now, we’re going to have to have a lot of pocket poise...the guy that can be poised and step up into the pocket, as bad as that may sound, and create some scrambling toward the line of scrimmage, is going to have a better opportunity. We’ve seen Gardner do a good job of that.”

No way we beat Navy and Temple w Nelson. Too inconsistent and not able to make plays with his legs. We need a QB with better mobility since our O line can't block.

The season is basically over and there will be no bowl barring a miracle finish. We need to go ahead with Minshew since he's got two more years. We need to start playing all the younger guys to get ready for next year.

No way we beat Navy or Temple no matter who is the QB. This week is the last winnable game of the year.

Minshew is raw but he's a gamer. In just over 2 quarters of action against Tulsa he threw for 336 yards, 1 TD & 0 INTs and was responsible for 17 of ECU's 24 points. He actually played well against USF as well, coming in when ECU was down 24-6 halfway through the 3rd and rallying to 24-22 in the 4th quarter before USF pulled away late. He also had 220 yards in just 1.5 quarters in that game against USF.

I honestly really haven't. Maybe a quarter or two.

There's no reason not to start getting him experience for next year at this point.

Agreed. I think the Tulsa game would have been more competitive had they made the change sooner.

After 4 turnovers the coaching staff finally puts him in with only a minute left and he drives the team right down the field for the TD right before the half. I can't believe the coaching staff left Nelson in so long. He's done.

To be fair only two were on him. I think they were trying to give him one more chance and then he made two insanely poor reads so he got the hook.
