3.

IMO, UAB is a basketball school, not a football school. UAB literally had no winning seasons in the last 10 years that it played football (2005-2014). Throw in two more seasons without playing at all (2015 & 2016), and UAB football has basically been "out of sight, out of mind".

The good news is that UAB now gets a fresh start. That's not a bad position for the Blazers to be in. UAB now has a chance to rebuild its' fans base, improve its support and essentially start over.

I'm probably the only guy that's going to tell you the 100% truth. I see most folks in this thread are just trying to be nice. But UAB has got a lot to prove when it comes to football. No, I'm not a UAB hater. I think your mens basketball program is top grade and a 1st class representative of CUSA. I really enjoy our rivalry with UAB in mens basketball. I just think that it has yet to be proven that you are a football school. But that doesn't mean it can't happen. WELCOME BACK!

I'll be honest and say "3," no offense. I have missed UAB some and am extremely glad that you guys got football back, and that your admin really supports you this time, but until I see it with my own eyes, I'll have to say a "3" because UAB's specialty always was basketball and not football. That being said, I hope UAB can change that specialty with Bill Clark!!

OMG! No love from Old Dominion!? 05-mafia

We actually love you guys a lot.

My very first ODU sports event was the January, 1986 UAB v. ODU mbb game, when Coach Bartow went into the stands after some students who (allegedly) were throwing ice. As a newcomer to Norfolk, I was invited along by a thoughtful co-worker. I've been hooked ever since.

Very much looking forward to seeing the Blazers back in football gear next season!

Bartow's teams often irked the opposing fan bases to the point they'd throw things. (mars bars at Diddle).

I agree with this. It's up to us to change the perception.

I think it will be good to have them back, and with their coach and hopefully newfound support from the community who realized that UAB football helped put them on the map in the national consciousness, it will be good to see how they do.

UAB will always be a basketball school first but we need football to be a success as well.

I know of a school that used to think that very way! 04-cheers

This has been very difficult for those of us that have been invested in the program since we were a club team playing Marion Military and folks like that with out point guard at qb.

Thank you for all the support and criticism which is warranted. In the words of Admiral Yamamoto: I can see Paul Bryant Jr saying:"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant"

In terms of tangibles I would say 5, but I very much admire the struggle against the Alabama machine and I find supporting UAB football to be very cathartic
