Oakland is one of the best in the Horizon, and Pitt has a top 60 team

He said best wins. I'm inclined to believe he knows at least who Pitt is.

Youngstown St, coming off of back to back 11 win seasons, beats Akron, 90-82.

RE: MAC Basketball Opening Weekend
Toledo drops a close one to St. Joes 77-76
And Akron falls to Youngstown St. 90-82... didn't see that coming.

Not a bad loss for Toledo at all. Akron result didn't see either. Did Akron play poorly or did YSU play well

Wouldn't call Pitt, SMU and St. Joes ... 'lower division' and that's half of the losses ...

RE: MAC Basketball Opening Weekend
The only game that the MAC dropped so far that going in I felt we should have won was Akron losing to YSU. I feel we've held our own in those coin flip games and kept Pitt and St. Joe's to really close games.

SMU was 25 - 5 last year. Not too shabby. St. Joes 28 - 8 and Pitt 21 - 12 (they were 9 - 9 in the ACC which was a brutal conference last year).

I said the MAC had all wins vs. lower division (i.e. DII-DIII.) and was sub .500 vs. the rest. Pitt was the only major conf. opponent. I said mostly mid-majors, which they were.
Not all mid-majors are created equal. Akron was the only MAC team to lose that went into the game favored, meanwhile, NIU managed to pull the slight upset over Indiana State. Kent and Ball State went in as 1 and 1 1/2 point favorites and came away with wins. EMU went in as a sizable underdog and took Pitt to 2 OT. Overall I'd rate the 1st weekend as neither good nor bad. It went mostly as expected.

Well, I'd say "neither good nor bad"= "fairly unimpressive." Were you impressed by the conference's performance? I was not. It wasn't a disaster, but it did little to establish the MAC as being very strong, either.
First week of the season ... No. 1 order of business is to beat the teams you are supposed to beat - home or on the road. Let's start with that. After the turkey, then get picky.

RE: MAC Basketball Opening Weekend
If your expectations are for the MAC to outperform the AAC and A10, I'll save you the disappointment and tell you that's not going to happen.
