You know, I started to mention that one, but forgot it was that same season.

That game was televised in Hattiesburg, with one of the H'burg-Laurel stations borrowing the NIU local feed. I have no recollection of what the betting line was, but NIU fans stormed the field and took down a goal post when it was over. 03-banghead

And then there is my all time favorite TTT moment, the 1995 Alabama game. Google it if you really enjoy misery. Most depressing ride home after a game ever. Wasn't even a coaches show the next day.

..I was there...Bower had us in man coverage on the final play...we rushed 3 and also kept our 3 linebackers up front ....WTF????......I remember seeing nobody back on the goal line to just knock the ball down...He had us in Man Coverage on the 4th down Final play!!.... I remember this like it was yesterday because I pointed that out to my friend..."HE's Got Nobody BACK!!!!"

without question, the dumbest thing I've ever seen in college football ever. EVER!!

1994-1996 was a TTT-heavy era. I remember watching a home game in '94 (?) where we pissed one away late against ECU.

1995 vs ECU. Pirates line up for about a 55 yard field goal on final play. They do a fake and USM called for pass interference and then ECU kicks field goal for the win . 1995 was full of TTT. Indiana game was a cluster of mistakes . Just gave that game away

How about the greatest John Cox TTT. 1990 vs Georgia. Taylor lines up for 42 yard field goal with about 30 seconds remaining down 18-17. Cox on the call as I listen "it up and its good.....noo it hit the upright". Broke my radio that day. (I did go to game at Georgia in 1996 that we won. Very nice stadium and campus. Refs tried to hose us by calling fumble by Edwards a safety and not a TD)

My favorite Cox moment was during the aforementioned Florida game in '92. It was a nail-biter in the 4th quarter, and we either had the lead or were within a score of taking it. Florida had the ball, throws a pass, and Cox calls, "INTERCEPTED!!" and the group of us gathered around the radio all jumped up...

"...almost!"

and we all sighed as we slumped back down.

what was the game a while back when cox called TOUCHDOWN SOUTHERN MISS! only to later find out it was intercepted?
it might have been a 2 point conversion... don't recall.

it was late in the game if i recall.... seems like the receiver and defender both caught the ball but the defender came down with it somehow.... we lost TTT

2000 when Louisville came to Hattiesburg and beat us 49-28.....and the final score makes the game sound close when in actuality UL probably could've scored 60 on us that day

Sounds like the '06 East Carolina game.

that sounds correct

Also remember listening to Bill Goodrich call the 10-10 tie, Southern miss - Alabama game .... Alabama has the ball ... Goodrich, "the pass is caught, incomplete, intercepted, NO "

ESPN was in the house for the first time in ages, maybe ever, on a Thursday night. I forget what the line was, but the expectation was that it would be a big coming-out party for us.

So of course we lost 14-10. The despression on campus after that one was palpable. The air went out of the balloon, and we ended up going 3-7-1. Pitt went on to win only 2 other games that year, over 4-win Rutgers and 1-win Temple.

Sat through that one in the student section.

so did I. But hey, losing like that is Southern Miss' MO. Always has been. If we weren't so fn gullible and biased about our team, we could have made lots of money betting against USM when games either mattered heavily or we overlooked someone. But nooooooo, somehow we forget all that.

And by the way, we aren't winning another game this year.

I stand by this statement. 2 embarrassing losses in a row....but hey, it's gonna be 4 in a row in a few weeks.

YEP, not sure why or how anyone thought we'd beat North Texas. Get ready for a complete clinic on Friday...it's gonna be ugly.
