PSA: The Smack Board is not No-Mans-Land
Hello everyone,

There's been a few popular threads sent to the smack board recently. Historically, moving things to the smack board has been synonymous with censorship. Somewhere to send a thread so that it goes away.

I personally would like to change that.

We here on the American board have a very healthy amount of diversity in quality posters, who all contribute to the life of this board, which makes it the #1 destination for this entire website.

I would like to build upon this culture and promote it, but at the same time, there needs to be clear representation and adherence to the rules of this website.

With that being said, I urge anyone who has the inclination to do so, to attend the smack board when the occasion arises. It is a valuable, Wild West resource that perfectly complements the personality of this board, and shouldn't be assumed to be a punishment.

Please feel free to contact me via PM or otherwise, if you have any questions.

With all due respect---the smack board being a no mans land should tell you something. Thats a reflection of the fact that most folks on this site are not intestested in that type of interaction. Unless the mods want the more popular boards to become similar ghost towns, they need to get control of known super trolls on this board.

A little ribbing is fine. Having a different opinion is fine. Threads designed simply to agitate a fan base are not the way to increase the boards popularity. Those type of posters simply create animosity and serve to ruin a board. jMHO.

I respect and appreciate your comments and opinion. Hopefully, you don't mind me adding my experience and associated opinion.

I enjoy the humor from some of the guys that some may consider trolls. Hopefully we'll not ever have an environment that we can't use ourselves as objects of humor.

Having been driven off of the Memphis board on this site because of exactly what your describing; I don't think this forum is anywhere near that level. The board that I referred to became completely unlivable for normal people wanting to carry on intelligent conversation. I agree that the powers that be should do what they need to do to keep this place from reaching that level.

RE: PSA: The Smack Board is not No-Mans-Land
Kruciff, I have to chime in.

I like the idea behind the idea, but not the idea itself. The smack and the trolling are only effective in context. That means they are only effective at the serious table. Moving threads to the smack board is like moving from a money poker game to a side game where you use fake chips. The game just loses its importance. There is a continental divide.

My recommendation is to loosen the rules just a bit to allow the heavyweight trolls to ply their trade while letting the rest of us spar with them as we wish. The alternative is letting posters like that Westhoff kid dominate the discourse with mindless agitation while some of the masters here need to walk in-between the raindrops.

The trolling on this board is the best I've seen. It does this conference a great service in that it builds rivalry and anticipation and when done correctly creates opportunities for a the humility that comes with the eating of crow. When its humble time, these people take their medicine. I'm not saying let it go to pot, but a little less is more. I've seen threads bumped to the gulags of Smackberia that were as wholesome as brothers fighting over the last slice of pizza. Don't worry. This board will self-police. It's a good one.

That's an issue as well. Some schools seem to be more "protected" than others. If it were an anti Houston thread I doubt it would have been moved.

The so called "Troll King" has been slamming me with negative points for jokes I've made about Tuberville while he regularly bashes conference mates. Cincinnati fans are WAY too sensitive and are clearly protected on this board...07-coffee3

lol...I never said he wasn't a troll. I'd love to see all the trolls and all their troll threads sent packing. Those that find their troll threads so interesting can simply follow them over to the smack board. If thier that interesting, then surely having to click another page to see those wonderful trolling gems shouldn't be a big issue. The fact that the Smack Board is empty tells me nobody is all that interested.

To the mods credit, it was worse a few of months ago. It was getting to the point where almost half the threads were troll threads. I think they made a quiet behind the scenes effort to get it toned down a bit.

It is a fine line. I like playful, occasional, and mild trolling between fans that is all in good fun, but it can turn ugly. The Memphis board in its current state drives off many Tiger fans. Ironically, I am treated better here by fans of other schools than I am at the Memphis board.

One of the reasons I stopped frequenting the board as much was because of the insatiable drivel and thread derailment that happens as a result of the usual suspects. I think there are many in the silent majority that don't see any real action to dissuade the behavior and thus have left well enough alone.
