Agree completely. I also don't stop by as much anymore... As this site becomes less about serious sports discussion, and more about juvenile insults and 'trolling' is celebrated... and we should support that?

Kruciff, Figure out what you want this board to be... If it's the kingdom of trolls and insults, so be it, you should get a lot of clicks. If it's sports discussion, than moderate it properly. Makes no difference to me... Isn't moving things to the smack board, when in fact they are smack posts, what you are supposed to do?

Now that realignment is settled the American is in a good place. That (and pesick along with other Houston fans) was a major cause of all the trolling on the board, IMO.

I'm surprised pesik has completely fallen off the map. He really shot himself in the foot though trying to build up houston. He should know the coogs will always coog it and let you down.

You're such a fake fan. Don't act like you weren't on the hype train like everyone else. Fans like you don't deserve to see winning seasons, so damn fickle.

Depends on what you mean by hype train. I thought our team was going to do really well. But you never saw me bragging about how much better we were. I also was the first to criticize my team for not playing up to what i thought was their potential. I didnt make those dumb injury excuses that pesik made.

Also what fabs do deserve to see winning season exactly? Im one of the few that had actually stuck around through the really bad. They way you act surprised that most houston fans are so fickle tells me your either new to houston or a new fan.

I'm just saying the way you talk about the team you'd think our record was inverted. We dropped the ball this year, no doubt. That sort of thing happens with sports but you don't have to diss the team. They've still got a ton of talent and in case you haven't checked, the season ain't over.

For the record, I'm never surprised when a UH fan or any Houston sports fan for that matter, reveals themselves to be fair weathered. That doesn't make it any less disappointing to see.

I would be ok with being called fair-weathered if i was another fan that only showed up when they won but i show either way. Now if you want to call me pessimistic i won't argue that.

Next i know they have a ton of talent thats why I'm so pissed/disappointed. I honestly think the reason its all coming apart is because Herman is leaving and the team knows it. It would be different if we were losing simply because we were not the better team. But to lose because the team has basically given up is inexcusable.

Trust me when you are a fan long enough you will het pissed of too when they pull this crap. I guess my fault is getting my hopes up every year that we will actually change and get better than just "sometimes great".

As far as making anything better than a mediocre bowl, ya its pretty much over.

RE: PSA: The Smack Board is not No-Mans-Land
The trolls that derail threads should be dealt with by having their derailment split (no awful pun intended) and perhaps moved to the Smack Board while obvious troll threads in good taste should be left up for a day or two before being appropriately moved over.

Overall, I'd say the latter is the biggest complaint I have with this website and its moderators. There's trolling to draw a negative reaction, there's trolling just to be an a-hole and then there is just a practical joke, which is hardly trolling imo. Sometimes we just want to have fun and give people a laugh with just the title and OP alone but the mods swerve in almost immediately and spoil the fun. 4X, I had a thread titled "Kim Helton to Houston" following the theme of the threads with similar bogus coaching rumors and it only lasted a few hours. Meanwhile, the board's most notorious troll, BC1, gets to have multiple threads line the board for days when everyone knows his game because he's openly a troll.

That's not a petty jealousy, I can never be as professional a troll as him but like I said we all could use a good joke and as long as it doesn't go overboard, both in the individual post and too many troll posts lining the front page, then I don't see the issue with letting the occasional troll post linger on the board for a day or three before sending it off to the Smack Board where it belongs. That's not just here with the AAC but the entire website.

Im actually surprised your thread went to smack. Even though it wasn't plausible it would have been fun to discuss what it would be like if kim helton was coaching todays cougars.

I understand the heartbreak man but that's sports. Sometimes a team loses to a team that at least on paper, they should beat. I'm sure the rumors about Herman haven't helped but I think the sluggish play the last two weeks is more attributed to fatigue. That said the team showed us a lot of fight in that second half against UCF. I think the big comeback in combination with the bye last week will have the team recharged and focused. I still see us beating Lousiville, officially ending their playoff chances and ruining their season, which would be pretty fun.

As for the bowl game, I can see that you got spoiled from just one season under Tom Herman. If you're truly as seasoned of a UH fan as you claim to be then you'd know that bowl games should never be taken for granted, nor really any win for that matter. We could still reach 10 wins and possibly be ranked which would make this one of the better seasons in program history so again, cheer up a little.

Additionally, and I'll say this at the risk of sounding overly optimistic/delusional, we can still technically make it to a major bowl. Granted A LOT, would have to happen but the ******* Cubs just won the World Series so as far as I'm concerned anything's possible.

There's been a few popular threads sent to the smack board recently. Historically, moving things to the smack board has been synonymous with censorship. Somewhere to send a thread so that it goes away.

I personally would like to change that.

We here on the American board have a very healthy amount of diversity in quality posters, who all contribute to the life of this board, which makes it the #1 destination for this entire website.

I would like to build upon this culture and promote it, but at the same time, there needs to be clear representation and adherence to the rules of this website.

With that being said, I urge anyone who has the inclination to do so, to attend the smack board when the occasion arises. It is a valuable, Wild West resource that perfectly complements the personality of this board, and shouldn't be assumed to be a punishment.

Please feel free to contact me via PM or otherwise, if you have any questions.

With all due respect---the smack board being a no mans land should tell you something. Thats a reflection of the fact that most folks on this site are not intestested in that type of interaction. Unless the mods want the more popular boards to become similar ghost towns, they need to get control of known super trolls on this board.

A little ribbing is fine. Having a different opinion is fine. Threads designed simply to agitate a fan base are not the way to increase the boards popularity. Those type of posters simply create animosity and serve to ruin a board. jMHO.
I respect and appreciate your comments and opinion. Hopefully, you don't mind me adding my experience and associated opinion.

I enjoy the humor from some of the guys that some may consider trolls. Hopefully we'll not ever have an environment that we can't use ourselves as objects of humor.

Having been driven off of the Memphis board on this site because of exactly what your describing; I don't think this forum is anywhere near that level. The board that I referred to became completely unlivable for normal people wanting to carry on intelligent conversation. I agree that the powers that be should do what they need to do to keep this place from reaching that level.

It is a fine line. I like playful, occasional, and mild trolling between fans that is all in good fun, but it can turn ugly. The Memphis board in its current state drives off many Tiger fans. Ironically, I am treated better here by fans of other schools than I am at the Memphis board.
Agree 100%.

Wish i had your optimism, and i know just making a bowl with the coogs is a minor miracle. I just figured with Herman we would have finally broken the cycle of "cooging it" when we are on the verge of true greatness. Ill be sure not to allow myself to be lulled in to believing that again.

I would almost compare it to the 2009 season. We were on the verge of true greatness but then we cooged it to UTEP OF ALL TEAMS! Worse i drove 800 miles to go to that game only to watch that result. At least this time i was on my couch so there is that.

I like the idea behind the idea, but not the idea itself. The smack and the trolling are only effective in context. That means they are only effective at the serious table. Moving threads to the smack board is like moving from a money poker game to a side game where you use fake chips. The game just loses its importance. There is a continental divide.

My recommendation is to loosen the rules just a bit to allow the heavyweight trolls to ply their trade while letting the rest of us spar with them as we wish. The alternative is letting posters like that Westhoff kid dominate the discourse with mindless agitation while some of the masters here need to walk in-between the raindrops.

The trolling on this board is the best I've seen. It does this conference a great service in that it builds rivalry and anticipation and when done correctly creates opportunities for a the humility that comes with the eating of crow. When its humble time, these people take their medicine. I'm not saying let it go to pot, but a little less is more. I've seen threads bumped to the gulags of Smackberia that were as wholesome as brothers fighting over the last slice of pizza. Don't worry. This board will self-police. It's a good one.

Could not agree more. I'd almost prefer an offending thread or post be deleted, rather than moved. It's almost an insult to still exist, yet not be seen. A tree falls in the woods and all that...

I don't know if that's necessarily true. The fact that the Smack Board is a dead zone would seem to suggest otherwise. Here's how I look at this. The purpose of a troll and his troll threads is to make this board an unpleasant and irritating place for the target of the troll thread. Is that helpful to building the board?

Who specifically or in general are the usual suspects?

Question remains open.............

totally agree....Hate it when certain losers hijack threads. I don't know who some of these people think they are but it's getting old.

Well said.
