CINCINNATI – A $5-million gift announcement by Margaret and Michael Valentine to the Fifth Third Arena project helped to highlight the night at the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics’ 16th Annual Legion of Excellence Gala, Thursday inside the Nippert Stadium West Pavilion.
The Valentines, the largest cumulative athletics donors in the institution’s history, announced their $5-million lead gift to the $87-million Fifth Third Arena renovation. The privately-funded project is already underway with major construction starting in March 2017.
“With this remarkable gift, Peg and Mike Valentine are once again demonstrating how generous and supportive they are of the University of Cincinnati. They are ardent fans and alumni who faithfully attend our sporting events to cheer on the Bearcats,” said UC Interim President Beverly J. Davenport. Their love of UC has also been shown with innumerable hours devoted in service to the university’s betterment, including Peg’s current term as a member of our Board of Trustees. We appreciate their dedication and devotion to UC.”
