AAC Conference Championship Game
Random question. I don't remember reading any threads or comments about it. Are we actively bidding out our conference championship game? If not, why? It seems like most of the other conferences (SEC, ACC, MAC, PAC12, MWC, Big10) are doing it.

If we do ever bid it out, where would you like it to be? My pick would be swooping in and grabbing Charlotte after the HB2 thing dies down or is repealed. It would probably take some doing to get the ACC to snatch it away from Orlando.

Other honorable mentions...

-AT&T Stadium in Dallas
-Fedex Field in D.C.
-Gillette Stadium in Boston

The conference is not regional enough for this to be realistic.

RE: AAC Conference Championship Game
The ACC should abandon the neutral site championship game and let the higher ranked team host, like we do. Any time FSU or Clemson isn't in the game it's going to get terrible attendance.

Neutral site championships work for the SEC and B1G because they've got lots of huge fanbases and they're geographically compact. Everyone else is too spread out and has too many small fanbases that won't travel well.

Don't worry I think Tulsa's going to be a nice venue for this year.

I can't think of a worse idea then putting an AAC CCG in Boston. I wonder if the 3 fans who showed up would have fun?
Cheers!

Cheers!

Bingo. Needs to be kept the way it is. Getting a major sponsor is absolutely something that has to happen though.

Tulsa had a great crowd for the C-USA championship that one year I think it might have been against USM after they beat Houston and knocked them out of running for a major bowl. The crowd looked and sounded great on TV. Very Loud if I remember correctly.

For the 92nd time...we will never ever have to worry about that...as it will never go out forbid.

Most "host" teams have/had a hard enough time selling championship game tix with less than 1 week's notice (many times, home team/division winners are clinched till final game of the season), so imagine trying to get some of those fans to buy plane tix/hotels to go to some neutral site?

Just take a look at AAC visiting fan bases for regular season games when they have over 6 months of advanced notice of games...hint: there are not many.

I think CUSA was one of the first main conf to have the team with the best conf record host the championship game...and I'm glad the AAC has kept suit...as could you imagine a Tulsa vs UCONN game in Charlotte? Or Tulane vs UCF at the 90,000 seat Jerry's World?

No clue how you think any of those cities/stadiums would ever dare make any type of bid to host the AAC Championship game.

Fine Fine. But...

The PAC12 teams are an average of 606 miles from their championship game in Santa Clara.

The MWC teams are an average of 699 miles away from their game in San Diego. (No, I didn't count Hawaii).

If we played ours in Nashville, we'd all be an average of 634 miles away, 670 for Charlotte.

Once the Big 12 begins its "Neutral" championship game
It'll sell out.

AAC should continue 2 hav it's Championship Game
@ the highest seeded team's home stadium

I retract my MWC argument. Thought that they made an agreement with Qualcomm Stadium, but SDSU plays there at the moment. My bad

So put the game in 2 cities that DON'T have an AAC Team in their area? Really?

How many local tickets do you think you would sell in advance, when the 2 teams are not known, in Nashville or Charlotte? (Hint...you could probably count the tix sold on one hand...maybe 2 hands).

Last year's AAC Championship game in Houston had nice attendance on short notice. Probably best to keep the game at the highest overall seed between the two division champions.

That's pretty much what every single FBS bowl game is.

-Houston played in Atlanta - 71,007
-Temple played in Boca Raton - 25,908
-Cincinnati played in Hawaii - 22,793
-Tulsa played in Shreveport - 31,289
-Memphis played in Birmingham - 59,430

Those numbers, in places with no AAC teams, are decent enough. Even when you take out Peach and Birmingham, you still have attendence numbers that are about average for our conference, in games that don't feature our two best teams.

The championship in Houston drew 35k last year. I'd be fine losing 5k fans and gaining sponsorship dollars.

MWC championship game is played at the team with the best record. The basketball tournament is held in Vegas every year though.

Actually, Nov 5 first, then Nov 12, Nov 19 & Nov 25. We will be underdogs @ Navy & probably @ UCF. Way too early for any talk, but I guess that's what message boards are for.
