Because the starting 5 are required by law to be good?

The entire eligible roster is guys who saw Southern Miss under an NCAA probe as their best option. Let's think about that.

Required by law? Do not recall making such a statement. But if we're handing out scholarships, yea, maybe the five should be decent D1 players. Apparently Jackson State is better identifying and signing players!?!

Identifying? Maybe or maybe not. Signing? It's a safe bet they damned sure were under the circumstances.

We've got a school with a grand total of zero NCAA tournament wins playing in a 60-year-old dump of an arena to begin with. Now on top of that, add an NCAA investigation and a post-season ban that were both open-ended up until just 8 months ago (which was just 1 month before the most recent Signing Day). The only guys looking at that and saying, "Yeah, that's where I want to play" are guys with no other options, including, yes, a SWAC school that won 20 games last year, including one in a post-season invitational.

And just for kicks, let's top things off with a starting point guard who hasn't played a minute yet this season.

But by all means, yes, let's bury a coach who came here with 150 career wins in 8 years because we suck right now. It's obviously all his fault.

Okay based on your comments basketball is good as we can expect. Got it!! Maybe someone will spend $40M + so we can beat Jackson State.

Bc it cant possibly be that recruits and their parents simply aren't inspired when this 56 year-old ball of energy sits in their den and tries to convince them that he's the man to take them to the top, right? I mean, how could a 17-19 year old black kid NOT relate to this old white guy?

Yeah, that was totally the take-home message there. 03-yawn

Now that the NCAA sanctions are finalized, we know exactly what the penalties are and when they'll end. The postseason ban is over as well. That's two massive recruiting obstacles out of the way. With that, Sadler finally has a fair chance to sell his program and get some players in here. If he fails to do so now, it's on him. Up until now, it hasn't been.

Again, "We probably have scholarship limitations coming, but we don't know how many or for how long, and there's zero chance you'll play in the NCAAs, the NIT, or even a conference tournament for at least 2 years, perhaps more," is about the worst pitch imaginable this side of, "They're talking death penalty," but that is precisely the one with which Doc was stuck. Nobody is getting good players with that unless there are shoeboxes of $100 bills involved.

But naw, let's just repeatedly ignore that reality no matter how many times it's stated because "Rabble, rabble, rabble, torch and pitchfork, message board."

Good points there. Also involved in the last 3 or so games in addition to our best player being out so far we did not have our 1 big man,Rowe. Now I am not saying Doc is a great coach and the savior of the program. I'm just saying he was handed a mess to deal with and stepped up to the plate with 2 strikes against him. Many are asking the impossible of him. Maybe he can win here, maybe not. I don't think anybody could have the last couple of years after what Tyndall left us with. I love USM basketball but I would not have advised my son to have played under that mess if he had the opportunity. So we ask Doc to do the impossible and complain when he doesn't do it. He's not going anywhere at least for next year so let's see what he can do.

Amazing to think we had Larry Eustachy for 6 (?) years and then let him slip through our fingers.

Slip through our fingers? We were overjoyed when he left. He lost the fanbase in year 3 and even when he had success didn't draw crowds. His offense often struggled to get 15 in a half. Oh, and he lost to Savannah State twice.

We can pretend that LE was our glory days and how we can't believe we lost him, but that's bull crap. That's like blaming Fedora for where we are in football. Stop acting like we lost some gem when we actually just made poor hires afterward, something that tends to be a habit here.

I was not overjoyed when he left. He took us to the NCAA tournament. We've been a grand total of 3 times. Not saying he's calipari, but he's as good of a coach as we've had here.

Larry Eustacy hated it here and bad mouthed us really bad once he left here. He couldn't wait to get out of Hattiesburg. No one "let" him get away.

Holland was en fuego the 2nd half......that was the first half they played like a squad....

if campbell, davis, and holland would play like that for a game, we might win a few...

Rowe must've had a hangover....

...absolutely...Doc is a Great Coach but just look at what he is handcuffed with...Next year should be a pretty good year for us....Doc needs to stay with us long term, I believe he will be the First Coach to get us our First NCAA tournament Win....Love Me some Doc ball!

Better off to cut our losses after the season, get Wayne Brent at Jackson St., and get the JPS talent pipeline running down 49 South.
