Geez, anything but B'ham. I'd rather they take on a 6-6 Sun Belt or MAC team in Florida than that.

RE: Bowl Predictions
Eh... I seriously doubt Cincinnati gets to 6 wins. And if we do, we'll end up in Saint Pete versus some low level team that will score 35+ points on us compared to our 14- making them look like world-beaters.
So, I hope we end up not going.

Liberty Bowl: SMU vs Texas
Dumb former C-USA member question: How does this work now? I know that the Liberty Bowl is now primarily Big12 vs. SEC. Under what circumstances do we get in on it?

Virtually none. We are the backup---but the Liberty gets a #3-5 selection from both the SEC and Big12. Being that high up in the selection process, it's pretty unlikely that either of those conferences won't be able to provide a team to the Liberty. If that unlikely case were to arise, the Liberty actually supersedes all our other bowl commitments and gets the first selection from the AAC. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Our bowl line up is pretty bad, but it gets worse in odd numbered seasons. This season we at least can say we have 4 bowls with P5 opponents. In odd numbered seasons we only have 2 P5 opponents.
We really need to upgrade the Miami Bowl to a Liberty level payout to attract a Liberty level opponent.

So I'm guessing that works like, if the SEC gets a lot of teams into the playoff and other really good bowls, then their spot in the Liberty is vacated?

The SEC bowl selection goes like this...
1) CFP/NY6
2) Citrus (Capital One Bowl)
3) Outback, Belk, Liberty, Music City, Texas, Taxslayer - conference choice
4) Birmingham
5) Independence
So it depends on how many SEC teams make the CFP/NY6 and how the conference decides to seed that pool of 6 bowls. We could see Bama and A&M in the CFP, and Florida as a NY6 at-large. Then the SEC would need 10 bowl eligible teams to fill that pool of 6 bowls.
Right now the SEC has 8 teams with 5 or more wins who will likely be bowl eligible after the annual SEC pre-thanksgiving cupcake weekend. Then there's UGA, USC, and Vandy who each need to win an SEC game to get bowl eligible. If they can't do that then maybe the Liberty opens up.

RE: Bowl Predictions
I am hoping USF can win out and get the Birmingham bowl. Id love USF vs Ole Miss. Just dont want to return to Miami or St Pete. I dont see anyway we get military bowl... that would be my other choice.
I dont see how some have Temple in Birmingham... Seems the Military Bowl would be more suited for them, since Navy will probably go to the Armed Forces bowl this time.
If I were running the show.... (and given, I am not certain we fill them all.... but then again, we could end up with a bowl eligible and no bowl.)
– Armed Forces Bowl.....Navy vs. Big 12
– AutoNation Cure Bowl.....UCF then Cinci (both need 2 wins) vs. Sun Belt
– Birmingham Bowl..... USF vs. SEC
– Marmot Boca Raton Bowl..... Tulsa vs. Conference USA
– Miami Beach Bowl..... Memphis vs. MAC
– Military Bowl..... Temple vs. ACC
– Popeyes Bahamas Bowl.....SMU or Cinci (both need 2 wins) vs. MAC
– St. Petersburg Bowl..... Houston vs. ACC

We could see Bama and A&M in the CFP
Thanks for the info.
Not to switch gears on you, but is there really any way that both Bama and A&M could make the playoff? They are both in the West, so they can't even both go to the SEC championship game. I feel like whoever doesn't make it to their conf. championship will get hopped by winners of PAC12, Big10, and ACC championship games.

I'm saying it's better to go to Florida (or the Bahamas) than Birmingham and to play in that dump of a stadium. It'd be one thing if UH didn't play OU and Louisville during the season but they do and thus playing some power teäm isn't enticing enough to go to Birmingham to do it. That and everything from last season, UH has a solid reputation in football currently.
Not that I'll be disappointed, it wouldn't be the end of the world and it'd be cool to face a power program but I'm meh on B'ham.

I put opponent above all else. I'd rather play Auburn in Albuquerque than Louisiana Monroe in the Bahamas.
I'd bet that the Houston players would agree. The team is already catching enough crap right now. They might want the chance to prove something against an Ole Miss rather than an Idaho, especially if they lose to Louisville.
