RE: Akron game thread
I think it's pretty simple. Toledo simply does not have the personnel on defense. They cannot defend a team who has the capability of stretching them sideline to sideline and that has a passing game. They spread out to defend the run, then they get gutted up the middle. They concentrate on supporting the run defense and get killed by a team that can also throw the ball. They were using a cover 2 defense early in the 3rd against Akron. Toledo's O line had a huge weight advantage against Akron's D line and Akron simply wasn't balanced enough to take advantage of Toledo's weaknesses. It's all about match-ups. Maybe Toledo has enough offense to outlast NIU, whose system is to go sideline to sideline and then over the middle. We will see. Toledo should be able to outscore Ball State. WMU is too balanced on offense for the Rockets and will crush Toledo. That's just the way it is this year.

RE: Akron game thread
I agree that WMU is a better team than Toledo. However, last season Toledo was clearly the better team but due to a Toledo fumble and a terribly stupid Toledo penalty, WMU won the game. All it takes is a couple of wacko plays to change the entire complexion of a football game. If Woodside stays sharp and the receivers catch the catchable passes, there will be a lot of Toledo scoring. WMU may be getting a bit overconfident about playing in a big Bowl so you just never know how things will turn out.

WMU gave up 31, 30 points and almost 1000 yards of Offense to NIU and
EMU in Kalamazoo. Both were 2 TD wins for the Broncos.
Btw, I saw some encouraging play out of Blue and Covington.

Yeah, anybody that's got some cover skills and can make a play on the football.

I own a copy of "Old School". I certainly didn't miss the reference.
You could of also could have gone the Diceman's "Little Boy Blue" direction.

I saw the same thing Boca. Blue didn't always make the play but he was usually in the right place and showed the size and athletic ability to be physical and fast. covington is gonna be real good. might be a gradual process, but he keeps getting better and has a good corner's attitude. my concern is recruiting and player development on the dline. hoping this is just a down year, but we're gonna really miss hester and stepec next yr, so i don't see improvement.

Need OL, DL, LB's. Some quality Grad Transfers and JUCO's would help.
