RE: MAC mid-week attendance (2 games)
Here are the attendance averages for the MAC thru 11/02 according to NCAA.org:

WMU- 23,175
Ohio- 23,000
Toledo- 21,388
CMU- 19,166
Miami- 18,641
Buffalo- 17,902
EMU- 17,829
BG- 16,801
Kent- 14,100
Akron- 11,083
NIU- 11,019
Ball St- 8,626

So yes it was worse than normal, but all 3 were in the bottom 10 of FBS prior and are now the bottom 3.

If the NCAA actually forced teams to average 15,000, Ball State would need to nearly triple their average attendance next season to stay in compliance.

RE: MAC mid-week attendance (2 games)
OU is the most consistent of any fan base in the MAC. They are also competitive and range from 6 to 8 wins every year. Toledo is second but we range to have midweek games with 15k to having 30k for weekend premium games. Our ceiling is a little higher than Ohio's. WMU has the largest stadium in the conference so they can fit more than anyone... Paired with a top25 team they have good attendance this season. CMU usually does pretty well because like OU they win 6-8 games per season.

BG can be a MAC title contender and still have bad crowds inside the stadium. Like Ball State their students rarely go in.

NIU has an abysmal fan base... Some say because their alums are in Chicago and it's an hour away? Not sure. For having the success they experienced the past 6 seasons, there should be no excuse.

Kent, Akron, UB... Stick to hoops.

Miami has a terrific alum group but you need to win more than 3 games to get them in the stands. Back in the Rothlesburger (sp?) days, they could pack it.

The Miami Athletic Director about a week ago in a video interview said that he thinks the average 15,000 attendance rule will be going away soon. The original intent of the rule was to show an intent of commitment and to keep just any schools from calling themselves D1A (FBS now) but now with 10 specific conferences named in contract of CFP and facilities levels and rule that only a team invited by one of the existing 10 conferences can move into FBS that their is no longer a need for the average attendance rule to show commitment to FBS and just any school saying they are FBS.

Might as well get rid of it. It's ignored now.

Yeah, it's a pointless rule. Especially with many G5 leagues forced to play midweek games. You can't really blame MAC fans for not showing up for Wednesday Night games directly against Game 7 of the World Series, yet in order to get on TV, that's what they have to do.
