The league is probably going to have to be willing to split up the deal and use a lot of "new media" to get the type of revenue we have to get to remain competitive in the next deal. Whether it's Google, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Hulu, or whatever.

I was going to argue that Dallas would hardly be a "central" headquarters, but then looked at the map. I guess SMU, Tulsa, and Houston are the 3 closest together teams, with Dallas in the middle.
We'll have to fly to them regardless, so it's whatever. Sorry UConn, no more cushy mileage reimbursements for meetings.

If ESPN does not renegotiate now, and I tend to think that is likely. When deal ends we likely need at least 1 tiers to sell and maybe even 3. I have real doubts of 10+ like some on this board talk about, but lets face it 6 to 8 mil would be a huge jump up from where we are now.

If we're talking central to the conference and home to a member school, Memphis is clearly the most central. If having a member school is irrelevant, Nashville and maybe Charlotte make sense too.

I think $6 million is where we will land and its not horrible. The ACC got $25 million total revenue.
If we get $6 for TV, then about $1.5 for payoff, another $1.5 for NCAA credits and then bowl money.... plus a little for a secondary contract with Turner or CBS, then were at $10 million total.
Weve been at roughly 1/6th their total revenue, so if we can get a short deal that only runs through 2025, maybe get them to gurantee our champ or #2 a little higher profile bowl with a P5 team in it and end up at almost 1/2-1/3 of the ACC income, then were making progress.... and might have enough cash to keep our coaches, and hire decent assistants.
and honestly, at that level of money, I think a couple MWC and maybe BYU take a little notice.

We'll trade you the corporate headquarters in Dallas for the conference basketball tournament staying in Hartford.

Cincy and Baltimore wouldn't be bad either.

Let's award the conference BB tourney to the school that has the best average home attendance for conference games from the prior year. It provides some added motivation for folks to buy tickets to conference games & rewards the school that supports their BB program.......and it is most likely to sell the most conference tourney tickets too which helps for TV appearances.

He has to get in TV revenue at a minimum enough to replace the lost BE warchest shares that UCONN, Cincy, and USF are splitting.

He talks about alternatives to ESPN a bit in the article and the future of the tv deal.
I did chuckle at the Memphis writers initial comments: As the Big 12 mulled expansion, several AAC stalwarts were considered prime candidates, Memphis among them
Guess the writer didn't follow the process very closely...as Memphis was grouped in with the like of Arkansas State, Rice, etc...and didn't make even the Final 11.

I actually like this idea a lot. We'd never, ever host, but I like it. Might get some ECU fans to start buying tickets.

While that would be nice...the tournament is usually given to a CITY/ARENA (and school) that puts up the best bid...as so much goes into it (i.e. number of free/discounted 4-5 star hotel rooms for conf and teams....arena rent discount...other city/county incentives, etc....).
Strong local support generally means better chance at full tournament booklet sales...something Memphis did an amazing job when they were at their high point with Calipari back in CUSA.

I'm not saying it ought to be Memphis. In fact, I'm not sure Memphis has had the best conference games attendance in the last several years. It just makes sense to award the tourney to a location where it is best supported. No doubt the other incentives can be developed equitably if this approach were adopted.

Fair trade...as having the conf HQ in a much bigger market and closer to more teams should help the conf get a lot more pub year-round.

The tournament should be played in locations where people would actually want to spend a weekend.

Well while he is looking to the future can he ask ESPN to lighten up on all these noon games. I like the TV exposure but damn, 4 noon kick off games? Maybe even 5 once they announce the Navy game.

And yet, at the end of the day, here you are stuck with us peons. No one was ever going to the Big 12. We all got played.

“We’re far more valuable than what we’re being paid. We know that,” said Aresco, whose salary was $1.6 million in 2014
Hilarious. The guy makes 80% of what each individual school makes. What a country.
