SB Nation published this write up about our most recent game, and labeled our series the "most heated active college football rivalry in the state of Texas". Anyone paying attention knows our teams don't like each other, and we fans certainly have a contentious relationship on the board. With the size of our alumni bases, this rivalry could become big if we ever develop winning programs.

The problem is you there are a few people pushing this "rivalry" as a thing right now. In fact, we had media folks calling it a rivalry before we had even played a game. It's not a rivalry. UTSA doesn't move the needle for most UNT fans like, say, SMU or even MTSU. True rivalries have to be born over time and out of the passion of fans and players. Right now there is no passion for UTSA except game week.

Maybe one day it will be a rivalry but maybe not. No need to force it. Honestly, it hard to build a rivalry when both teams are bad. Right now I'd say UTEP is a better rival for UTSA. There was a lot more chippiness in that game than our game with UTSA.

UNT needs to win a few games before this is a rivalry. Let us know when you're ready to compete...did y'all see that dominating performance last week?

You would think so, but I can tell you that the needle moves on UNT than it does for UTEP. I think a lot of it is that UNT and UTSA have a lot in common where both are trying to take that next step and become a bigger program. I think UTEP is already at that level. Plus add in the Dallas/San Antonio angle which does add to it.

Plus its way easier to travel up to Denton than way out to El Paso.

Relax, I'm just poking fun at an odd rumor. True or not, such antics only serve to fuel rivalries.

Hey I've admitted before that I didn't want UTSA to get into the FBS. Nothing personal. I just knew we would end up fighting y'all for recruits. Didn't think you'd be able to compete on the field this soon either, but here we are...

Believe me, within our fan base, I been very vocal in my displeasure with our record against UTSA.

Regardless of what the record looks like, if a media outlet wants to label our games as a premier Texas rivalry, I say we roll with it. By embracing that narrative, our programs and C-USA come out a winners.

It's better than our record against SMU.

Jared nailed it in the article. Both teams love to hate one another and you see that not only with the teams on the field but also with the fan bases. It's the one game a year I want to win at all costs. We had fun talking about Mason Fine and his commanding 5'9 stature all week. See you in Denton in 2017!

Josiah Tuaefa's late game sack of Fine made SC Top 10. If you recall, Tuaefa wanted to go to UNT badly but was never offered. Now the Freshman is having a Freshman All-American season and not just in CUSA but nationally. Just to fuel the fire.
