Jalen Hurd leaving Tennessee Immediately: Unhappy with His Role at UT
Has Lane Kiffin returned? What the heck is going on at UT?

RE: Jalen Hurd leaving Tennessee Immediately: Unhappy with His Role at UT
It's clear that Tennessee just doesn't run the system that he is best in.

http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/c.../93053034/

This article had a post that his uncle talked on. Apparently Butch promised Hurd that they would play more of a I formation and power running offense. This year they have ran zero I formations. It's a same to see this kid leave because I remember some recruiters saying he has the body of AD and how he is such a powerful runner. At the same time I can understand how this isn't the best system for him to run in.

I wonder where he will go. I doubt the SEC because of the transfers rules but I think he will try and go to a more pro style team. Team's like Michigan come to mind. Maybe he goes to a smaller school to get a larger role. The article also points out he may play receiver or TE too.

No, its worse because while Lane might have been an incompetent HC, he was/is a great OC. Butch has proven to be a great recruiter, but an incapable HC. The team is in disarray. As you and I have stated several times, getting down big in first haves is indicative of poor game planning. The loss to SCAR was simply the breaking point for a season that has been fraying all year.

As decimated as UT was by injuries that's still not really an excuse. UT didn't have a gameplan really and only had one successful TD drive (And that was on a long scramble from Dobbs) until the waning moments of the game.

I'm taking a much more patient approach than many on TN boards I think. Butch has improved the record every season and we can still reach ten wins with a bowl game. I wonder if he will be forced to make an OC change this season, but I doubt he really is in trouble until 2018 unless we lose out and don't make a bowl. Rationale is the injuries that hurt us and a transition at QB next year. However, any other loss would be especially painful, quadruply so if Florida loses to LSU/Arkansas and TN-KY decides the East.

You are definitely more patient if you think Butch can somehow right the ship next season. Objectively, 2016 has been a mirror image of 2015. The difference being that he has was those heartbreaking losses he suffered last year. But the same lack of preparation exists IMO.

The university needs stability and is changing ADs. This is his 4th year, meaning only one set of seniors that he actually recruited. I'd love for him to get 7 years (2019), even if his cap is 9-3/8-4 type seasons, because that brings stability and talent that other coaches will want to take over (i.e a good situation that they could turn elite). However, I fully expect him to be on the hot seat next year, with a new coach in place in 2018 if he doesn't win the east/beat Florida again and or/go to a New Years Six bowl. I think that is a ridiculous standard though. I do however, see the school demanding a new o-coordinator, and think that might help.

I think if UT turns in another 8-4 type season Butch will be gone under a new AD. It would be dumb for them to make a move this offseason.
