ESPN Goes Full Social Justice Warrior, Loses 621K Subscribers In One Month
[Image: Colin_Kaepernick_ESPN_picture_300x178.jpg]

ESPN and the NFL can continue to tolerate and support anti-American demonstrations, but they will continue to feel the financial pain. Week 8 of the NFL season and TV viewership is down by 24%.

Quote:Traditionally not strange bedfellows, ESPN and Monday Night Football should make for a nice, natural fit. However, the bed they made together appears to have caught fire, and the anthem-kneeling, social-justice-warrior love child they created now dumps gasoline on the flames.

Nielsen made their subscriber numbers public, delivering apocalyptic results for both ESPN and the NFL. ESPN lost 621,000 subscribers in the last month, and ESPN’s Monday Night Football fell by 24%.

To put this in context, ESPN lost the entire city of Baltimore, or the combined populations of Lexington, Kentucky and Stockdale, California, in a month.

That’s fairly impressive when you think about it.

The subscriber loss represents the worst in ESPN history, made all the worse since ESPN has essentially lost 300,000 subscribers a month over the past few years anyway. The tanking of Monday Night Football helps not at all. The end result of all this that ESPN loses $52 million dollars in revenue.

Now, to qualify, subscribers dropped across all cable providers, not just ESPN. However, as Fox Sports 1’s Clay Travis notes, “It just impacts ESPN the most because ESPN costs every cable and satellite subscriber roughly $7 a month, over triple the next most expensive cable channel. Yep, if you have a cable or satellite subscription, whether you watch ESPN or not, you’re paying ESPN over $80 a year.”

Some really big positives for conservatives jump out immediately. First and foremost, the world’s largest and most liberal sports network took a big hit, perhaps not a fatal one, yet wounded nonetheless. The other positive for conservatives has to do with ESPN’s expected reaction to these subscriber losses. ESPN makes its money from sports rights.

Worst loss in ESPN history? Obviously this has to do with the NFL matchups!

I can just see the executives at the ESPN head office scratching their heads and going "But I don't even know anyone who would vote Trump."

right, it has nothing to do with cord cutting. It's all about the anthem stuff that no one mentions anymore.

I'll take crappy football.

What I don't like is 15 minutes of total action with three hours of commercials, commentator banter, and lifestyle reporting.

Yeah I get that. That's why I watch Red Zone. You get all the games with no commercials and they only show the good parts.

I gave up on ESPN long before the Kaepernick thing. I'll still watch if there's a specific game I want to see, but the network is pretty much unwatchable to me. Sportcenter seems to revolve around the soap opera of sports, the mid day talking head shows are ridiculous and the constant "tug at the heart strings", human interest stories don't really do anything for me (I know, that makes me a terrible person).

The very few people who would normally watch MNF but have chosen not to because of the anthem business --- and we're talking handfuls of people here, out of the entire country --- were already cord-cutters.

So ESPN losses have nothing to do with the anthem business.

How on earth do you survive without ESPN?

I've never understood how someone can call themselves a sports fan and not watch ESPN.

Well, first off, I like sports, but it's not an overly important thing in my life. So I don't have a need to be constantly plugged in to what's going on in the sports world. Also, I still watch games, just not all the other stuff. There's also plenty of websites out there that I can get sports news from when I want it.

I'll bet it's some of both.

I'd drop espn if I "could", but haven't. I have it on in the background in the A.M.s sometimes for just background noise and the occasional topic that m might be interesting.

But, I DO switch the channel whenever one of their staged, predictable fake argument shows veers off into this crap. And YES, they do fairly regularly, still.

So when that happens a simple click solves that issue, and while I'm not one of the subscribers that's dropped them, I am then no longer a viewer, and that's nearly as bad.

They're driven by eyeballs for setting the Ad rates, and at some point many more of us may realize we can do just fine without the Connecticut sports entertainment network.

Sounds like you are actively boycotting ESPN rather than just casually watching sports.

I think the fact that ESPN in general sucks and that the NFL is throwing out a crappy product has more to do with it than anything.

The SJW bull**** doesn't help but I don't think it is the direct cause.

I stopped watching ESPN because of their insane lovefest over anything and everything $EC. I was just sick of it. I seriously think they believe the Bama is the center of the universe.

I'm in the same boat. I find myself watching NBCSports and BeIn mostly. If there's something big I want to watch on ESPN I'll just go to the bar.
