OT: Pats trade ex-USM football player, Jamie Collins, to the Browns
Cleveland only had to give up a 3rd round pick for NE's best defensive player

His contract is up this year. Word is he was playing hardball over a long term contract and Bilicheck did what he always does when that happens, they trade the player. To him its his way or the highway.

Doubt they would have traded him to anybody with a shot at the playoffs.

have you seen the Saints lately? they aren't making the playoffs and it's probably in their best interest to have really high draft picks

They still have a shot mathematically, especially in that division. A player like Collins would really help their defense.

Considering the Browns are 0-8 this doesn't appear to be a trade that helps them in the long run. With Jaime being a free agent there's no guarantee Cleveland can/will resign him. With that being said, the Browns very well gave away a draft pick for a player who will play just 8 games for them at most.

Browns being the Browns. Patriots being the Patriots.

I thought they gave a 3rd rounder for him?
Still don't know why you give up anything when you're 0-8 and don't get at least a year with the guy.

Browns will be able to try to negotiate a deal, and failing that, will apply the Franchise Tag on him because, well, Cleveland doesn't have anything else to protect. The franchise tag means they will be able to keep him under club control even albeit at a steep rate, though not quite "Von Miller money".

My guess is that Collins inks a big deal and fades away. It happens to so many who leave New England's defense.

Looks like Bilicheck gave him the ol' "f you" since he evidently wanted to play hardball. Going from a Super Bowl contender to a doormat.

To be fair, the Browns are only a linebacker away from being a contender.

I guess the question would be have you seen the Saints lately? They have a chance to win the division. But they aren't going to give up a 3rd round pick for a player with a half a season left on his contract without an extension.

Are you saying that Collins doesn't have a strong desire for football, or that New England was the reason he was a 2nd team All-Pro last season?
Because, the former I could somewhat see....The latter, however,

I think New England does have a system that certain players thrive in. Collins is a good player, but I think the New England defense made him really good. He will never be the same dominant player.

Must be rough. He was on the 0-12 team for USM now he goes to winless Browns.
