New Coaches Poll
these things are just sickening sometimes. OP is 3-5 and someone STILL voted them in at #25 (one point in the poll).

northwestern lost this week, is 4-4 and has 4 points in the poll, after not receiving any votes last week. they lost to ohio st and got rewarded for it. ohio st also got rewarded, by moving up 2 spots. (i understand baylor and neb lost so OSU jumped them. just dont see how northwestern suddenly got some points, being 4-4 and losing).

troy just keeps winning and is getting no respect at all. not moving up or down.

at least la tech got a vote this week. mtsu didnt move up or down either. at least didnt lose any ground.

RE: New Coaches Poll
Your complaints are of course completely valid, but remember this thread in December when everyone is clamoring to play a .500 Big Ten team instead of an 8- or 9-win G5 program. We like to ***** from August through November about everyone else's big-conference bias only to confirm it during bowl season.

RE: New Coaches Poll
in any sport, polls should never be released until a fair percentage has been viewed by all eyeballs....at least then, 'one' has a better understanding of evaluating talent

however, those that love reading and wiping with the nat'l enquirer that was five fingered from the DG would never allow that....

the bottom line is that bias will always exist when one has mo' monies....

I enjoy winning games much better.....like social media/media, early polls are for putzes....once the bias has been administered, it's almost impossible to move up....

at the end of the day, it's just more bs overload crapola....

hell, the coaches poll was always my fave to laugh at.....aren't they coaching at the same time other games are being played....dumbest one of 'em all

i dont think the polls should come out until the 4th week of the season. the preseason polls have too much influence on the ultimate outcome of the season. its simply unfair.

Amen! and Amen!

I actually heard a head coach say once that he never actually voted in the coaches poll. He just told someone on his staff to fill it out and send it in. Could have been his secretary (oops.. I mean executive assistant). He actually said he didn't have time to even find out all the scores of games before it had to be returned.

I'm sure the Troy folks are pissed. I would be. They deserve some love in the polls.

RE: New Coaches Poll
I've always argued that there shouldn't be any form of pre-season or in-season OFFICIAL rankings until the 6th week. At week 6, this would allow for a FRESH unbiased assessment of a true ranking and not one that has been skewed by inaccurate/misleading pre-season rankings which carry SO much weight going into the regular season. However, the TV execs won't allow it because they like to use "rankings" to pimp out and promote/advertise/sell the upcoming tv games early in the season.

If this was the case, a few weeks ago NO ONE would be tuning in to watch an undefeated Washington team play an undefeated Stanford game...because it's "just two teams playing" and no one would really know or care about their records....but if there is one of those "#'s" right by the school's name then it makes the broadcast a LOOOOOOOOOT more appealing = more viewers = more ad $ etc.

Think about this...Troy is 6-1, their one loss coming to the now 3RD ranked team in the nation in Clemson by 6 POINTS. Troy isn't even in the T25 now. Clemson is ranked 3rd...if Troy would've beaten Clemson, they'd probably be in the top 10 (as would Clemson).

Six points is what is separating Troy from being a top 10 team right now to not being ranked at all...that is what is wrong w/ college football and how pre-season rankings have messed up a lot of the "perception" of teams when people vote in polls/rankings. But then again...a made or missed FG is the difference between getting you a 2 million dollar raise or getting your ass fired. Cutthroat.

I agree that Troy should be in the Top 25. I also believe that they should probably be in the 15-20 range but there is no way they would be a top 10 team.

Their wins come from Austin Peay, Southern Miss, New Mexico St, Idaho, Georgia St and South Alabama.

I prefer no poll until the end of the year. Play the games and once the season is over let everyone see the final poll. A lot of back room politics and payments would come into play. :-)

You can call Ole Miss all the name's you want and you can keep calling State "Moo U" but the fact of the matter is that If Ole Miss are the Plantation Owners and State is Cow University than Southern Miss is just a nasty **** eatin fly on the butt of that cow standing on the plantation that will simply swat you away with it's tail.

SM does not even register on the radar with them anymore.

Wow...looks like you revealed yourself a bit. Youre the one going off on um and msu. I would have made the same comment with any 3-5 team getting votes. Proof is my comment about northwestern at 4-4 getting votes too, in the same post. Maybe youre too old and blind or absent minded to have picked up on that. Lultz

Troy is certainly no Top 10 team but I think they are #21 or #22 material. It's sad actually, given their weak schedule, that they could win out and it would be virtually meaningless nationally. But would be a banner season for them. Beating us was the signature win...which ain't saying much. But hey, beating Kentucky is probably ours...which isn't saying much.

really....how could one possibly know that....

it's alabama and everyone else....

that's just more preseason brainwashing bs....

I'd love to watch Troy against either sister to the north or any S***E****C*** team other than bammers or the who....

To be fair guys, you are our best win to date. We are getting love from the AP poll with 20 votes which is good enough for #29... if we beat umass this week and App State next week then yes we should get ranked

Are you a blind 90 year old man who doesn't pay attention to rankings??!

Western friggin' michigan is undefeated and ranked 17th and 18th in the AP and coaches poll...there best wins are against .500 Northwestern and 2-6 Illinois. If we're playing the what-if game and Troy had beaten Clemson, Clemson would undoubtedly still be in the top 10 w/ 1 loss and undefeated Troy would be as well...

...put down the metamucil and prune juice, log out, go buy some glasses, watch football and learn to read you whackjob!
