I hate to say it but I seriously have to question the veracity of this information.

I just read in an Iowa State blog that our money is not going to go up for the next 35 years or something like that. This would appear to fly in the face of that bombshell and the Iowa State blogger is extremely credible throughout the greater Ames blogging community.

This would seem to verify the contract clause that ESPN would owe each ACC school a minimum of $3 million without a network (17 and 18).

Also with 2019 being $5 million per school, we might have the established minimum base each institution will receive regardless of whether or not the network is a success or not.

I suspect the $8-10 million assumes the network is a success. So I will be cautious about those increases, especially considering the current trends in sports networks.

Cheers,
Neil

He probably does have a direct line to the Dude so I don't know how anyone could question it with that astonishing record of correctness. It's like they have a crystal ball or ouija board or something.

Excellent points omni! This is strictly about the ACC Network $. The ACC still has contractual escalators as well as contractual "look ins". No way would the FSU Board of Directors allow some "rumor" on the Internet to influence their decision making.

It says new TV contract, but I think it is truly referring to specifically the ACCN part of the new deal. Obviously the other part of the deal is what the value of the regular TV contract will be for the 10 year extension which is not referenced in this tweet which will include the typical contractual escalators for those years, imho.

However, I have been known to be wrong before.

Cheers,
Neil

Well, that the ACCN announcement shook the Big12 to its bones certainly lends credibility to your opinion. I think you are right on the money!04-cheers

For all the doom and gloom surrounding the traditional cable industry, ESPN continues to be wildly profitable and the SEC Network has been a huge success. Much of the doom and gloom has to do with the end of the perpetual growth cycle that ESPN had been in as it moves into a more mature business phase. However, it does so having had a 100% gross margin last quarter, i.e., its revenues were double its operating expenses. That's so ridiculously profitable it's hard to believe.

ESPN is certainly banking on being able to repeat the success of the SEC Network with the ACC. Reaching full potential is going to mean getting premium prices, around $1/subscriber/month, on the most common channel line up tiers in all home ACC markets. The most interesting markets will be NYC (where college hoops is extremely popular and SU, ND, and Duke all have good followings), Chicago (can ND deliver this market?), and Boston (does BC have enough fan interest in this pro sports town?).

After the ACC pilfered the BE of their best teams multiple times I'm not surprised most of those AAC/BE fans wish the worst for the ACC.
