Same for TXST, no men's tennis.

App will always do well because they have every sport that the SBC counts. I still haven't figured out how they manage it. Male/female ratio must be different, or something.

We also offer Wrestling and Field Hockey. Wrestling stayed in the SoCon and Field Hockey is finding a home in the MAC next year. Those sports are a wash I would think for Title IX.

App is 55% female so that would seem to make it even harder to make the numbers work. We are doing something right I guess.

RE: 2016-2017 Bubas Cup - Completed Sports
I'm not sure why or when the conference chose to adjust the scoring methods for the Cup, but here's how they now have it listed on the site:

"SCORING: Points for the Bubas Cup are awarded based on regular season finish for sports that have a regular season conference schedule. Points are awarded based on Sun Belt Championship finish if that sport does not have a regular season conference schedule.

Points are awarded based on the number of schools sponsoring the sport. Institutions not sponsoring a sport do not receive points in that sport. Institutions tying for positions split the combined points of their positions.

For sports that have both a regular season schedule and a conference tournament, one additional point will be awarded to the winner of the conference tournament.

For sports with divisions, the conference records of all teams are ranked and points are awarded regardless of divisional finish."

Here's the point total after the indoor track and field championships:

1. Appalachian State (52.5)
2. Arkansas State (51)
3. South Alabama (50.5)
4. Texas State (46.5)
T5. Coastal Carolina (46)
Texas-Arlington (46)
7. Louisiana (39.5)
8. Georgia Southern (31)
9. Georgia State (29.5)
10. Little Rock (27)
11. Troy (25)
12. ULM (21)

Basketball finishes next Saturday, March 4, then the conference tournament will add another point to the tournament winner. Golf and tennis are in April.

Despite offering fewer sports than everyone else in the conference, there's a very real chance that UTA could grab the lead in the Bubas Cup after basketball season is recorded.

Based on the numbers I have on my Bubas point listing UTA will be up 4 points-if the current standings hold in basketball at the end of winter sports.

Not bad, being that UTA offers the least number of SB sports of any school.

I got an email from an SB staffer. It seems they had a meeting and decided to change the points awarded due to confusion over volleyball and what would be other divisional sports.

"we changed a couple of things following discussion with Athletic Directors, them then proposing some new rules, and it passing unanimously."

This is easier and how I was doing it during the season. There are good points about either process. The fact no one voted against the change means I am not going to figure it is a big deal either way (though it cost App 1/2 point.)

Well it just makes sense. By conference record, UTA in volleyball was the fourth best team overall, but third in the West, which was decidedly tougher. The old system would have a team with a sub .500 conference record earning more points.

It would work in reverse for baseball too. UTA is preseason second in the West, but probably would have been 4th or 5th in the East. It is just a more fairer system, and prolly the best thing if we have divisional play with imbalanced games.

Amazing. I've only been trying to get them to do this very thing for the past 3 years. I wonder what made them decide to do this now, after the athletic season has begun.

I thought it strange to change mid-year also, but it was an unanimous vote so it would be hard for any school to cry foul, though some were helped and some were hurt by the decision.

I do appreciate the fact that a SB staff member would take the time to reach out to a fan and interact. I do think that speaks well of the conference employees at least.

Quite a bit of movement in the top half of the standings.

1. Texas-Arlington (69)
2. Texas State (64)
3. Arkansas State (62)
4. Appalachian State (58.5)
T5. Coastal Carolina (57.5)
South Alabama (57.5)
7. Louisiana (54)
8. Georgia Southern (47)
9. Georgia State (46)
10. Little Rock (42)
11. Troy (41)
12. ULM (23)

Golf and tennis up next.

TXST next big numbers should be outdoor T&F. Nice move on TXSTs part the past couple of weeks. Proud of the BB teams.

Troy's sweep of the basketball tournaments garners them 2 points and jumps them over Little Rock.

I expect UTA's track teams - men going for the triple crown - and tennis teams to keep them near the top. The golf team is looking good early on as well. We don't sponsor women's golf this year (but will next), so that will hurt. Hard to tell where out diamond sports stand and I feel like this will be 2014 all over again where we had a Bubas lead until those two were decided.

We don't have Men's Tennis and our Women's tennis isn't very good I don't think.
Tennis will probably hurt us and we may drop out of 1st.
