G5 kick off games
What would it take to see some neutral sight opening weekend G5 matchups a la the games in Atlanta and Dallas?

Obviously it would never get the television exposure and would need to be even more regionalized and played in smaller stadiums, but would you be interested in the idea for your team? If you could get a matchup with an interesting regional G5 from another conference in a neutral site game on Labor day weekend, how much interest would you have?

MLS stadiums, the majority of which are on the low end of G5 capacity, could be a possibility. With that in mind, Atlanta could even add a third game to the CFA classic and play it at the MLS capacity.

Next year they have Bama vs FSU on Saturday and UT vs GT on Monday.

How about a game like USM vs ECU or MT vs GS or Memphis vs UAB on Friday night or Sunday afternoon?

RE: G5 kick off games
I know it wouldn't be agreed to, but something similar to the bracket buster matchups in bball would be interesting. Have 16 G5 teams save a game slot later in the season, then pair them off from best to worst. Put the best ones on primetime TV (maybe even guarantee a College Gameday visit for the no. 1 host).

The biggest downside is that some of the best G5 teams would be putting their access bowl bid at risk, but I guess if you are too scared to play you don't deserve it anyway.

How about a game like USM vs ECU or USM v Memphis on a Sunday afternoon?

[/quote]

Since we owned them for decades, ECU and Memphis wants nothing to do with USM football.....I believe we played Memphis 50 years in row (missing one game in there somewhere), and we are now persona non grata and no longer "in their league" (literally and figuratively 03-lmfao).

WE also played Toolame 30 years in a row, blah blah blah sis boom bah..04-cheers

Before someone writes the obligatory "whining" and/or "sour grapes" reply, as Joe Friday would say, "I'm just stating the facts, m'am"...

Stay thirsty my friends..

Hey! it's a great idea my friend, but we would have a hard time getting some of our old rivals to participate. USM v App IS happening, but as a home and home..04-cheers

ECU would be willing. Not sure why Memphis wouldn't, since they would win badly.

Not exactly the same thing but for some unknown reason there was a MWC game between AFA and UNM played at a neutral site on Oct 15 at the old Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas. Only 18k attendance and that was probably an exaggeration. The place holds 92k now so it looked practically empty.

RE: G5 kick off games
I have thought about a G5 neutral site scenario as well. My idea is to play in a good venue, ie. New Orleans Superdome. Involve 4 regional G5 teams in a double-header.

I do believe a card like Southern Miss vs. Louisiana-Lafayette/ Louisana Tech vs. Arkansas State would fill the dome and be a great atmosphere. It would be a positive for all teams involved. All of the teams recruit N.O., the SunBelt is based in N.O., who in the hell wouldn't want to go to New Orleans on Labor Day weekend for fun and football.

It could be billed as a C-USA/Sunbelt Showdown (don't even pretend that C-USA is too good for this). Oh, and as a bonus, TULANE would never be involved (no draw) and they would have to put up with all of us in their back yard. I think that alone is reason enough to do it.
