Not to dispute your general point, but exactly which freshman did you have in mind as a possibility? Williams (our only one)? Maybe if the voting had been done in early- or mid-January, he could have come in around 4th-6th. Maybe - but really not that likely, to be honest.

While TJ is, without a doubt, our star player, at times this year it has been Hanner or Desonta or AJ or Glass who has been the lead dog in terms of stats.
Don't misunderstand, the Bucs sink or swim with TJ's success, but he has not been required to be dominant for us to win. Potentially that played against him in the minds of some voters.
Because so many Bucs get meaningful minutes, there was no padding of stats against the bottom feeders. I do think that TJs 32 versus Furman last week would have been plenty to convince me who was the most outstanding player in the conference.
I think this^ is the real reason. That and Cromer's whiny attitude he's adopted. That's just *got* to turn some people off just a bit. Personally, I think he was a better choice than Sibley, not that it matters.

I guess I didn't make my point clear, which was: If the best ETSU has to offer is one 1st-Team player and one 3rd-Team player, then doesn't the overall success of the team point to a great job of coaching by Steve Forbes?
I think Williams will wind up being a good player for the Bucs, but my intent was not to argue that he should have been on the All-Frosh team.

I've come to believe if TJ had a strong game against UNCG and we win the outright title, TJ would have gotten offensive POY.
Regardless, I do think AJ deserved Defensive POY

AJ absolutely deserved defensive player of the year, no question about it for me.
TJ isn't going to ever get the benefit of the doubt due to his behavior, but AJ is a great representative of the conference and is absolutely the best defender. I am hoping both of them show up in Asheville wanting to be the tournament MVP.

**** Yes, and I suspect the voters agreed. They just thought Medved maybe did an even better job. I think one could make an argument either way, but because the perception is that ETSU is totally loaded athletically, then the thinking is that Medved had less to work with and thus achieved more. That's not me saying that - just my interpretation of the Coach of the Year voting.
Also........if one looks back at the pre-season predictions.......Furman and UNCG were predicted to finish tied for 5th. One can make a pretty good argument that either of those coaches best exceeded expectations. You all know I love Forbes, but if I had to vote, I'd probably have voted for Wes Miller or Medved. (And congrats on the new young-un!)
I think Williams will wind up being a good player for the Bucs, but my intent was not to argue that he should have been on the All-Frosh team.
**** I think in general, there's a possibility that the voters also had some "athlete envy". I don't know - just a thought.
**** I could easily see A.J. or Glass on the 3rd team - but at the same time, it's also hard to remove any of those guys. I'm not sure I could take away a third-team honor from any listed. I'd more likely remove Holland and/or Baldwin from second team. Also, personally, Acox is first team rather than Tuoyo or Magee. But you know, the coaches have to prepare to play against these guys day after day. They should best know who's their biggest nightmares for the whole season.

Where is Ernie from 640 to tell us that Merriweather deserved Defensive POY?

Ernie.. It doesn't matter what time of the day I get in my car, what show is on(well not Rome) Local or national, even some of the overnight shows I have heard him call in and the host(s) know him.
When does he sleep?

One of my favorite listening moments was just after WXSM went from the "four letter" network to CBS and was broadcasting John Feinstein. Ole Ernie had called up and gone back and forth with Feinstein (I think about Nascar). It was fun. You could feel that Feinstein recognized the regional/cultural difference but that he also recognized that Ernie was aware of and proficient in his Nascar knowledge.
