Curiously (or not), ETSU, MTSU, and Tenn St. have all swept 3-game tourneys in November. MTSU just finished winning their own "Challenge in Music City", with UNCW being their first victim. Earlier, Tenn St. won the Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara.
By the way, Tenn St. had their first loss last night at Vandy by 24. MTSU beat Ole Miss tonight in Oxford by 15.

Not sure why C-USA isn't included in the "mid-major" designation, but they didn't ask me my opinion. I guess "high-major" is more proper, but nobody finesses it to that degree. I guess C-USA is sort of caught in the middle. But certainly those teams are closer to mid-major status than is Gonzaga or Wichita St., for example. But we all know that and that point has been made before.

First time I saw MTSU play in a while was during March Madness this last year. I was highly impressed and proud of another Tennessee school doing quite well. Sounds like they have a good chance of having another good year, as much as those can be predicted so early.

I still say it's a freaking shame that we don't play MTSU every year.

Nothing to surprising in regards to us but Oakland has shot up from 25 to 12.

UNCG only getting one vote. From what I have seen they look pretty impressive from where they were last year.

UC-Irvine getting a smattering of respect, too, I suppose from playing us close in addition to taking Cal to OT. They play Arizona in Tucson tomorrow night. (Or "tonight" for those of you not reading this until Tuesday.)

edit: And.....Arizona took down the Anteaters 79-57.

MTSU just absolutely smacked Vandy around in the 'boro, 71-48.
They are likely the best team in the state of TN at the moment.

UT-Arlington (who has beaten Texas and narrowly beat Fordham), is up pretty big on St. Mary's at the half. I knew they were good, but didn't know this good.

edit: And Arlington whupped them, 65-51 (in CA), including outrebounding them by 5. I know Arlington has decent size, but they're not *that* big. That 7-footer from Canada doesn't play much. Apparently St. Mary's had a terrible shooting night, or UT-A played great D on them. VERY impressive.

UNCG is down 1 to Wake Forest with 2 minutes left. UNGC is playing well. They are going to be tough this year.

Wake hit a deep 3 with two seconds left to win 78-75.

UNCG isn't the only one building a strong SoCon team.

There's Chattanooga with BOTH 6-10 Justin Tuoyo and 6-10 Makinde London; Mercer, struggling through perhaps the toughest out of conference schedule in the SoCon (Florida, Davidson, Akron, George Mason, Clemson, Auburn); 5-3 Samford, with 6’5” athletic U-Mass transfer Demetrius Denzel-Dyson and 6-8 Auburn transfer Alex Thompson producing well alongside 6-9 Soph stud Wyatt Walker and a couple of good freshman guards (sharpshooter Triston Chambers and Philly ball hawk Josh Sharkey); Furman with an experienced team and 6-8 soph center Matt Rafferty gradually recovering from summer back surgery; Wofford with Mike Young gradually getting people to play his way.

Anybody who makes it through this conference will have built skills that should serve it well in the Dance.

Monmouth is for real, for anyone who doubted. They just knocked of Memphis in Memphis for their eighth straight.

And St. Mary's crushed the Anteaters Sunday night. I was hoping if they played them strong it would help our RPI. Ain't gonna happen.

Chatt played Vandy real close at their place tonight/today.. if it wasn't for a big 3 by one of Vandy's 7 foot post players in their last possession, Chatt wins. It's going to be quite the game between us and them. Glad we have them at our place first.

Chattanooga let one slip away. They led most of the game, but let Vandy catch up in the last few possessions. Greg Pryor missed the front end of a one and one to leave the Mocs with a one point lead with 29 seconds left. Then Tuoyo failed to come out fast enough to defend 7-0 Luke Kornet, who was already 2-5 from the arc, and left him a wide open deep 3 for the winner.

Did ya see what Middle Tennessee did to Vandy in the game before this?

MTSU is legit. Best team in TN at the moment.
