RE: Part 2: ?'s For CUSA Teams As Season Approaches - 49ers, Rice, NT, FIU, So Miss, UTSA
I hope all the other CUSA teams enjoy Tony Benford's final tour through the conference. This is the final year of his contract and the new AD and the new assistant AD are both basketball guys who will quickly realize what this author did: Benford can recruit some talent but he can't coach. This was evident from his very first game and we've been waiting five years for him to be fired.

Please everyone, kick some butt in the out of conference part of the season. The top half of this conference is going to be darn good and we're going to beat each other up pretty bad. The only way that doesn't hurt us all too bad iis to do damage to the out of conference foes. I'm thinking two NCAA teams and maybe two NIT teams too.

So excited to finally be on the upswing again. As low as we have fallen, the climb back to the top should be fun. Doc is a better coach than most think, and the players really buy in. Let's get this thing started. Not predicting anything great with the record this season; just steady improvement.

Agreed. People look down on Sadler because Nebraska fired him, as if a winning record over 6 years and 3 NIT appearances in the hoops bastion that is Lincoln is anything to sneeze at.
I've been rather impressed with the efforts his teams have delivered so far, especially in light of what he's been up against.

Doc is fantastic. Couple studs in the wings sitting out that will be impact players next season too.

If Rice finishes 9th in conference play, CUSA is going to be a heck of a league this year (or half our team got injured). I'm not sure the article is correct as I don't believe Marcus Jackson will be the point guard. It will be either true freshman Ako Adams, or redshirt freshman Chad Lott. Those two plus Marcus Evans and Marcus Jackson will give Rice an incredibly deep and talented backcourt, as we'll probably play 3 guards most of the time in a very up-tempo, full court pressure style.

Doc's done one helluva job with what he inherited.....it's close to Monkenesque..
next year we get to talk about things....
this year, we kick back and watch how we continue to climb out of another '12 styling shitehole....

Basketball can't get here soon enough.
Agree. We will finish in the top 5 this year. Sounds like Marcus Evans will be playing PG. Lott is back from injury and is a more natural 2 (and believe it or not Lott apparently looked better than Evans before he got hurt last year). Jackson was all conference before he got hurt and was more of a shooter, like Egor. Ako Adams has really impressed as a freshman PG in practice and Tim Harrison was one of the top rated recruits in the conference last year. Get ready for lots of pressure similar to VCU. Question will be can we play defense and get a few points in the post.

Is it basketball season yet?
I predict Rice's Tudor Fieldhouse is going to get LOUD this season as the students and fanbase wake up to what Mike Rhoades is doing in his 3rd year on campus. Although our place is kinda cozy, when the fanbase gets into it for a good Rice team (like in the Scott Thompson era around the end of 80's through early 90's), it can be almost as tough for opponents as Cameron is for Duke:

Man the top 5 is awful crowded. Hopefully everyone's preseason prognostications are on point and we win some game ooc. Then we can duke it out. Last season's conference race was fun but we didn't get much respect as a whole and rightfully so looking at the records. Anyone who followed the conference though knew there were some good teams especially at seasons end. Michigan St found out.

I'm as excited to watch Rice play this year as any team in CUSA. Letcher-Ellis is so much fun to watch compete.
