MyBB Is Cincinnati vs Memphis still a Rivalry?
I was shocked to see they only play once this year. I remember some great games between the two in The GMC and C-USA. Now that they've been league mates again for while, do you consider each other rivals still? If so, seems like the American is dropping the ball by not publicizing it as the biggest rivalry in the conference!

I agree. It's cooled some over the years but it sure as hell wouldn't take much. Lol, but I think for us both Louisville would be tops. Cincy and Louisville was more of a sibling rivalry where as Memphis and Louisville was all out war to the death throw all civility out the window pure hatred. Boy I miss those days. Lol. Cincy and Louisville and Memphis carried a lot of conferences with our games

I think Memphis is just now stepping out of the shadows. That fanbase was demoralized under Pastner. Rivalries were in the far recesses of their minds. I'm sure those thoughts are going to boil up under Tubby.

Wth??? Cincy is a rival but it feels better beating Louisville. They are coming back on the schedule in the near future

The Bearcats are a friendly rivalry that occasionally becomes somewhat heated. It's rare that we are both elite at the same time (in either basketball or football), so generally one program will win a streak of games in the series before the other takes its turn. I like having them in the schedule and always enjoy our games together.

Louisville and Memphis are archrivals. Neither fanbase likes each other, and the hostility ramps up to the stratosphere whenever we're competing in the same league. Many classic games have been played against each other over the years, including some epic beatdowns and incredible upsets.

Love the sweep we had on Louisville in their last year in the AAC

RE: Is Cincinnati vs Memphis still a Rivalry?
For Cincinnati, Xavier is our biggest rival and Louisville traditionally is 2nd -- unfortunately, the Louisville rivalry is dying a slow, painful death thanks to conference realignment. Memphis was a big rival in C-USA, but so far our games haven't been that interesting in the AAC. UConn has been our most interesting rival in that regard, but I hope that Cincinnati-Memphis builds back up to the C-USA days. If Tubby can get Memphis back to being a perennial tournament team, it will get good.

A big thing this conference is missing in basketball is high quality rivalry games. Memphis and UC can give them one, but as was previously stated they never seem to both be good at the same time. Tubby should change that.

short answer: no

Memphis is beneath us in every way.

In the Huggins vs. Calipari days it was THE rivalry.

A few things have tempered it down a bit . UC rebuild after Huggins, Not being in the same conference for several years, Memphis' down years with Pastner. It will only take both teams battling for a conference title or both being ranked to heat it up again. I look forward to the Memphis games . It is a shame we only play once this year.

Yeah, Cincy-Memphis bball was a big deal when something was on the line, and in the old days it was frequently a tourney bid, a conference championship, etc. Huggins said Memphis fans were the most obnoxious fans in college basketball, and Memphis fans would oblige every time he set foot in the Pyramid.

But Memphis-Louisville was always hot. Both teams could be winless and the game would still be big--Denny Crum throwing chairs, switchblades hitting the court at the old MidSouth Coliseum, lol.

To some small extent, I think the bile formerly directed at rivals in this conference is now channeled towards anger at the P5. Sort of a us against the world mindset with fellow comrades.

And it doesn't help when the AAC scheduling only has Memphis vs Cincy only playing once..........

Right, that's why we lead the all time series in football 20-13, and won the last two. Please keep Tuberville, lol.

RE: Is Cincinnati vs Memphis still a Rivalry?
The American needs to focus on these basketball rivalries:

Cincinnati vs Connecticut
Cincinnati vs Memphis
Connecticut vs Temple
Memphs vs Connecticut
SMU vs Houston

There is no reason why each of these schools should not be playing H&H's every season. Also, with Cincinnati's new arena coming in a two years, the conference tournament should rotate between Hartford, Memphis and Cincinnati. Those are the epicenters of the American basketball.

Now that the Big 12 nonsense is done, the American needs to focus on strengthening and showcasing the top basketball programs. There needs to be an American vs A10 challenge as well:

Connecticut vs Rhode Island
Temple vs UMass
Cincinnati vs Dayton
Memphis vs VCU

Come on Aresco!

In short, yes. Do miss Huggy though. My wish is for Memphis, Cincy and L'Ville to still be conference mates, competing for conference championships. Damn, I miss those days.

I'm kinda interested in developing new rivalries a bit. SMU vs. UConn, Houston vs. Temple, that kinda thing.

it was really great when we beat you 4 times in one year in basketball with the last win sending the Bearcats to the Final 4.....

The great thing about the layout of our conference is that when you have two strong teams you may even have mayors of cities hyping it up with a friendly wager.

Agree. So what does that have to do with football, which is the sport that counts more?
