UC's biggest basketball rival in conference is easily Connecticut.

For now, that's probably true, but the conference rivalries have always come and faded based on who was good. Rivalries based on current standings are a different type of rivalry than, for instance, UC/X.

They are easy for everyone to dislike.

Now that they've been league mates again for while, do you consider each other rivals still? If so, seems like the American is dropping the ball by not publicizing it as the biggest rivalry in the conference!

short answer: no

Memphis is beneath us in every way.

Right, that's why we lead the all time series in football 20-13, and won the last two. Please keep Tuberville, lol.

it was really great when we beat you 4 times in one year in basketball with the last win sending the Bearcats to the Final 4.....

Agree. So what does that have to do with football, which is the sport that counts more?

This is a basketball thread genius.

It's not dislike, its the closeness and intensity of the games.

[Now that the Big 12 nonsense is done, the American needs to focus on strengthening and showcasing the top basketball programs. There needs to be an American vs A10 challenge as well:

Connecticut vs Rhode Island
Temple vs UMass
Cincinnati vs Dayton
Memphis vs VCU

Actually, those don't look like very enticing match-ups. Doubt that there would be much national TV interest, and as a Cincy fan, I don't much like playing Dayton unless it is on our home court. AAC vs A-10 doesn't move the needle at all. Temple vs. Villanova, Cincy vs. Xavier or Louisville or Ohio State, Memphis vs. Tennessee or Louisville, and UConn vs. Syracuse, Georgetown or Providence and that's much more attractive.

Huggins, Pitino, and Calipari all in the same conference competing for titles was the best. All were big-name coaches with personalities to match and fan bases that didn't particularly like each other.

No matter how hard I try, I just can't see SMU as a basketball rival. On the gridiron it is different, but not on the hardwood.

I could us and Tulsa developing into a nice basketball rivalry.

Except I turned it into a football thread in Post #14, when replying to BC#1's all encompassing statement, so blame him, genius #2. 03-lmfao
