Tom Herman all but Official to Texas......
Houston suffered a stunning loss on Saturday that sent the team tumbling out of the top 25, but that apparently has had no effect on a major program being interested in its head coach.

In fact, a report on Monday claimed Tom Herman becoming the next head coach at Texas is essentially a done deal.

Houston must know it too, based on how they've looked of late...

That would be a great hire for them... but not sure they are ready to eat Tuberville's contract.

I bet it has cost him some money but I agree with the sentiment that based on how Houston is playing he has already packed his bags.

Tuberville's contract says that he must be picked up by the school employing Whit Babcock, so, VA Tech, you're on the hook to take off our hands our golf-loving, football knowledge know-nothing, no-recruiting, program-destroying, Head (case) football coach. Looking forward to scheduling the Hokies again real soon since you will have one hand tied behind your back.

What has Strong actually accomplished, riding Teddy Bridgewater's coattails at UL? That's not good enough. He was simply in the right place at the right time. At UT, immersed in a pool of potential talent, he's produced nothing but mediocrity. UC could do better.

Yawn. I though Herman to USC (east) last year was a done deal. Nope. Unless Texas is looking for a second year coach that knows how to lose to SMU, then Im not sure Herman is necessarily going to be their choice if they eventually decide to fire Strong. Im thinking they look for someone with a little longer track record. I think the AD's hiring for the big plum jobs are starting to realize that Herman is incredibly promising---but he is still a pretty raw coaching talent to consider for the top jobs in FBS.

Could be that, or it could be that much like when Fuente has basically accepted in principle the VT job last year it has messed up the current team.

So he would fit right in at UC, right? Worst-case scenario, it'd be like Tuberville never left... 03-nutkick

Texas was a bad fit. Strong has almost exclusively been a southeast coach with heavy ties to south Florida. He didn't have the connection (even with the Texas name) to be effective recruiting like he was at other schools. After spending 3 years at Texas, he knows the state well enough to recruit at Houston. The alternative is to find an eastern AAC school like Cincinnati but I think that Houston has the better upset with more parallels to Louisville and much better recruiting ground.

Huh? He's had 2 straight top 10 classes at Texas. Recruiting has nothing to do with it.

Recruiting has everything to do with it. At Houston his talent will be much greater than his opponents. It's only slightly greater at Texas. That's how he won at Louisville.

Todd Orlando is the next coach at UH unless something drastic happens, including him being dragged along to Texas. Major Applewhite is probably going to OC where he once QB'd at, that make a ton of sense and I wouldn't have any ill will over him leaving.
