College football games in MLB stadiums?
NDSU announced a game against Butler (which does have a varsity team, but in the non-scholarship niche of FCS), to be played in 2019 at the Minnesota Twins' stadium (Target Field).

This game should be scheduled every year, against UND. The combined alumni base just in the Twin Cities must be around 30k. Easily pack the place, every year.

How many other college football games are being played in MLB stadiums these days? I think Illinois Northwestern in Wrigley Field?

Last year's Notre Dame-BC game was at Fenway Park. Northwestern and Illinois played at Wrigley a couple of years back. The St. Petersburg Bowl is at Tropicana Field.

St. Thomas and St. John's (a huge rivalry in the MIAC) will also play each other at Target Field next year

NIU has a game scheduled at White Sox park on a weeknight in November

I expect exactly zero fans to show up.

What a joke of a game with Butler having zero scholarships. Thought that they would at least schedule someone like UNI, SDSU, or even USD and the bizon won't schedule UND except at home.

If Target field offerd NDSU UND a cool $750k each, damn right they'd do it! Place would be packed and rocking. Tons of TC alums, and lots of TC players too!

Sugar buzz,

Saw that too. Also an awesome game.

Didn't think about bowl games.

Clearly quite a few CFB games in MLB stadiums! Maybe I should have specified regular season, but looks like a few of those too.

Seattle used to have a bowl for a few years at Safeco Field, but it went belly up pretty fast IIRC. The Foster Farms Bowl was at AT&T Park right on the bay in San Francisco until the 49ers got their new stadium. Of course, there was a smattering of college football games played at the cookie cutter stadiums over the years until they mostly died out.

Busch Stadium has only hosted 1 college football game - it was SIU vs SEMO.

There are some NIU fans in Chicago, so they'll show up, the ones that can't bother to go to DeKalb for a game. So some people will be there but I don't expect any big turnout. A good number of tickets are sold, but we'll see how many show up. If I can't find someone to go with me I might be watching on TV myself.

I went to UConn-Army at Yankee Stadium a few years back. It worked out very nicely and Yankee Stadium actually seats more than Rentschler. Given that it's easier for me to get to the Bronx than East Hartford, I'm fully in favor of UConn playing a game in NYC proper every fall.

I guess but why not play on Saturday afternoon. I could see lots of fans showing up just out of curiosity for a 2:30 sat game. Trying to get to us celluar on a wed night for a cold weather game just screams it is going to be an awful turnout.

From a fans perspective, unless the stadium was designed to accommodate both, football in a baseball stadium s*cks! The sight lines are horrible. Many of the prime seats are so low to the field all you see is the back of the teams. The typical shape of baseball stadiums means there are few if any sideline seats. I saw a pic of the Pinstripe Bowl (?) where the end zone touched the stadium wall.

It's not quite that bad at Yankee Stadium. The field fits, but the out of bounds areas are clipped. Wrigley Field had the endzone touching a wall. The game was played in one direction for safety sake.

Yankee stadium has the Pinstripe bowl and one regular season game scheduled pretty much every year. In years when no FBS games are there, it hosts FCS rivalry games - Lehigh/Lafayette Fordham/Holly Cross.

BC played a game at Fenway recently.

there is a history of college football in baseball parks on the web at Sports on Earth.

Don't remind me. Hate that the last regime negotiated that deal, but no use crying over spilled milk at this point.
